The tickets were in his hands. Jason had been waiting for weeks for this show, and he'd be damned if he was gonna miss it. Nothing was going to mess this up. He had talked with a few of his friends at work and a couple of them were a little bit jealous. Jason was just excited. He showed up early, wanting to be in line near the front, and he was. Once the line started moving, he made his way inside, showing his ticket to the gate guard, and to his spot. This was going to be a great seat to see the show. This was going to be a great show. Echo Crybaby was one hundred percent Jason's favorite band. Even when he was out in his costume he would sometimes hum one of their tunes to himself. It had been a few nights since he'd gone out, he realized. Maybe later on in the week he'd do just that. He did it more for fun than anything else lately. Crime wasn't exactly rampant in Sapphire City. And being barely more than human, he knew that he had to be extremely careful out there when the crazy powered guys went nuts.
But that wasn't important right now. He was at the concert of the decade. Maybe that was an exaggeration, but he liked it. "She's so freakin' hot!" he heard one of the other people say from behind him. He could only nod and agree. But she also had a great voice, and her drummer was a badass and a half. That dude could really put down a beat. Everything about this band was awesome. The crowd erupted when the band made their way onto the stage. "Oh, this is gonna be so cool!" he yelled. He'd never been to one of their shows, mostly because he couldn't afford the tickets. He'd gotten lucky and won tickets from the radio station. That had been the biggest thrill of his life, until he saw Jordan come on stage. Wow. That was all he had.
The music hit, a heavy, steady rhythm, and the crowd went crazy. Jason even allowed a little squeal to get out. He was completely geeking out here. Halfway through the first song, an explosion went off near the back of the auditorium. Everyone thought it was part of the show, until another explosion went off almost immediately after. The crowd turned to look back, seeing five armed men stepping through the doors, which had been blown off the hinges. "Oh, you've gotta be kidding me," Jason said with a heavy sigh. These guys were NOT gonna fuck this night up. The music had stopped completely, and the crowd was screaming for a different reason now. "Son of a bitch," Jason muttered angrily. If there was a silver lining at all, he got to be a hero in front of Jordan.....

The auditorium was packed. Several years of grinding had finally gotten the band to a relatively good place. There was still further to go, of course. No matter how famous you got, there was always going to be someone living under a rock who didn’t know your name. Jordan fantasized that one day everyone would know her, but as a goal it would be unachievable and frustrating. It was better to keep her focus on things she had at least a little control over. Like making sure this concert was the talk of the town. Everything was going smoothly so far. The excitement of the crowd started giving her an adrenaline high before she’d even stepped onto the stage.
The band went onstage first, starting the intro for their high tempo opening number. Jordan bobbed her head lightly to the rhythm as she waited for her moment to come out. There. That was the moment. She stepped onto the elevator and started to sing as it took her upward to the center of the stage. The crowd went wild. Everything seemed so perfect. She got through the first verse without missing a beat, and when the chorus came up an additional pair of spotlights popped on to reveal two additional Jordans on opposite corners of the stage. There was no group in the world whose voices could blend together as well as three versions of one person, so the three Jordans singing in harmony was always flawless. It was part of the band’s gimmick, but also an artistic niche that no one else could duplicate. She was damned proud of herself for coming up with that one.
Explosions were definitely not part of the show. Jordan’s eyes widened once she realized something had gone wrong. Her duplicates disappeared in the blink of an eye as the armed men pushed their way through the panicking crowd and made their way toward the stage. What was it they were after, she wondered. If their goal was to rob the place, that would be made much more difficult by the masses stampeding toward their nearest exit. Though now… she saw that there were armed men standing in front of those exits. Maybe she could still get out the back? Nope, there was a guy standing just offstage waiting for her or her bandmates to make a run for it. Well, there went that idea. Apparently that one was the leader, because he strolled onto the stage bold as brass, grabbing Jordan’s arm with one hand while he fired his assault rifle upward into the ceiling with the other. That was one way to get the crowd to shut up and grab their attention...

Those motherfuckers!
This was supposed to be a great night. This was supposed to be the night Jason finally got to see his favorite band in concert. This was supposed to be the night he got to meet Jordan….
Ok, so he was getting ahead of himself a bit…..
The show had started, and it was off to a smashing start, but noooooo. No, those motherfuckers had to ruin it all. Hopefully ticket sales didn’t suffer in future shows due to this. That would suck if his favorite band went under because of these….these. motherfuckers.
But that’s when the shit hit the fan. Or rather, Jason really got pissed. The leader of the group went up and grabbed Jordan by the arm. He wasn’t the only one in the crowd shouting “Let her go!” But he was the only one who could actually do something about it. Too bad he didn’t have time to put on his costume. Just the mask would have to do. He turned and slowly slid the mask on, stealthily moving through the crowd, everyone so fixated on what was happening that it seemed they didn’t even notice him. That was good.
“We didn’t come here tonight to ruin the show!” the leader shouted, loud enough that the quieted crowd could all hear him. “We just came for your valuables. My men are moving about with bags. Put your stuff in the bags, and we’ll leave….No fuss, no muss.” He looked over the crowd. “And no hero shit, either. I don’t want to have to kill anyone. Is your life really worth a few dollars?”
Jason stopped as he reached one of the poles leading to the balcony. He looked up and went around to the back. “Hey,” he said to one of the henchmen, who turned and quickly got an elbow to the face for his trouble. “Take a nap, chubby,” Jason quipped as he dragged the body into the shadows. “One down,” he said as he looked back up to the stage. “Fuck, she’s hot,” he thought, though he didn’t realize he’d thought out loud.

A hand slipped out of the shadows and pulled the mysterious man into the tech booth. That same hand pressed a finger to his lips as the other slid the door quietly closed, and Jordan stepped into view. Or, rather, one of her duplicates. Her eyes narrowed as she looked him up and down. The mask hid the majority of his features, but she could tell he was not one of the group that had attacked her fans. “You’re not one of them. Who are you?” Behind her was a row of projected images throughout the venue. She’d watched him take out the thug in the back. He had skill. “I hope you’re not planning on doing anything that’s gonna get me killed.” One of the monitors clearly showed the original Jordan still on stage with a gun to her head and a vice grip on her arm courtesy of the leader of this gang. But as long as everyone complied, they would take what they wanted and leave, right?
Unless, of course, they decided that what they wanted was to kidnap the lead singer and hold her for ransom to the record company. That wasn’t the way most corporations operated. Singers were a dime a dozen. Criminals rarely thought that way, though. Especially the kind of brilliant thugs who would try to rob a concert in the first place. It was a chance. The other problem was how to know for sure these guys really would leave everyone unharmed as they’d said they would. Criminals rarely kept their word, after all. So to take them at their word and do nothing, or assume there was some way this was going to go sideways and take action. Jordan wasn’t sure what would be best, at this point. It looked like the masked guy had already made up his mind about it, though.
“I tried calling the police, but only got static. It looks like they are using something that blocks communications. So what should we do?” She could help a little. Her experience with actual fights was minimal, but she’d taken all that training to help handle situations like these, right? Okay, maybe guns were not normally part of the scenario in her head, but still. Duplicates couldn’t die, they’d just disappear, so it wasn’t like she’d be putting herself in any real danger.

"Huh? What?" Jason said with a grunt. Who the hell had just pulled him aside? When he heard that voice though he knew. "Oh, ummm, I....wow. Hi," was all he could muster. He could only stare for quite a bit of time. Probably creepy as hell about now. Not that he meant it to be so. "No, why would I want to get you killed. I'm your biggest fan." She probably heard that a million times from fans worldwide. But in this case it was probably true. This concert was all that he'd thought about since he'd gotten the tickets. "Wait is this the actual you or a duplicate?" he asked quickly, not sure at all which she was. Did she know what her duplicates were doing? What they heard and said? Why was he thinking about this right now?
"Look. I'm not trying to get anyone hurt. I'm trying to make sure that doesn't happen," he said without hesitation. Somehow he doubted that this was the real Jordan. It didn't matter. She was still so freakin' hot. How often could she do this? Did she do this at every show? Dammit, Jason focus! "Static? Yeah that makes sense. We've got to get the leader. Control the head, control the beast." It was rare that Jason got to actually handle a hostage situation, but he'd heard that saying a long while back and it made sense to him. "Your duplicates? How many can you make and can they cause enough of a distraction that I can get behind the leader?"
Jason wasn't sure that it was going to work, but he was damn sure going to try. Yeah, he was mad about the concert being interrupted, but the people here were innocent. As close to innocent as it was possible to be anyway. They didn't deserve to be held hostage. And saving people was what Jason did. It was what the Rook did. "What do you think?"

Her biggest fan, huh? Jordan had heard that before, many times. Still, seeing this muscular grown man all star struck was pretty damn cute. Despite the seriousness of the situation, the duplicate giggled. “No, I’m what she calls an Echo. Jordan is there…” She pointed one manicured nail at the hologram in the middle, of the Jordan onstage with the gun to her head. “She’d never let an Echo take center stage at a concert. That would be cheating the fans.”
This masked guy wanted to help her get rid of these guys. Good. Jordan could definitely use some help. Especially since he seemed to have some experience with this sort of thing. He was a regular Nightwalker. Though, of course, she’d never say a thing like that to him and risk hurting his ego or something. Instead, she listened to him as he began to strategize. He had questions about her powers. That made sense. “Right now, our limit is five Echos plus Jordan, so six. I’m sure five of us would be enough to cause a distraction. When we’re separated from her body, we’re our own autonomous beings who can make decisions for ourselves, not like puppets. But when we disappear, she kind of… absorbs us back in, if that makes sense? She isn’t connected to us mentally when we’re apart, but once we go back she knows everything we learn while we’re separated.” It was kind of complicated to explain to another person, and truthfully she’d never really had to try in the past. There hadn’t been any real reason for people to understand the way her duplicates worked.
He asked for her opinion of the plan, and the duplicate nodded. “It’s better than anything I was thinking up on my own. We’ll give it a shot. I’ll go back to Jordan so she knows the plan, then she’ll make the Echos and cause some chaos.” She studied the floating images of the rest of the venue for a few moments, trying to figure out just what Jordan should do to cause the biggest distraction possible. Then she got an idea and chuckled softly. “Alright, I know what we’re gonna do on our end. Anything else you wanna tell me before I head back?”

Yeah, Jason had to have figured that the real Jordan would be right in the middle of it. She seemed the stand up type in all her interviews. So it just made sense to him. That and the Echo's next words also made sense as well. Not that she was an attention hog, but she knew the fans deserved the real thing. The fans loved her, and it was so good to see that she knew that too. Too many celebrities were so stuck on themselves that they would look for any way to minimize their workload. Jordan wasn't that way, and it brought a smile to Jason's face.
That smile faded when it was time to talk about the plan. How were they going to get these people free from the invader's grasp? It was a decent plan, and it would work. He had to believe that. He listened to the echo tell him about her powers. That was very interesting indeed. There were so many ways that power could be used, and the fact that they melded back with her and gave her the information they'd received, that alone made Jason think that Jordan would need to keep a pretty hefty stock of excedrin. That had to be quite the headache, but useful no doubt. He nodded when she said she'd go back to Jordan to give her the plan. "Uhm, no. I don't have anything else. Just....be careful."
Once she was gone, Jason took a few deep breaths. It gave him a bit of time to put on the rest of the costume. That meant he'd have use of all of the tools and things that his costume gave him. That would be helpful. He really just wished that he'd been able to have a good time, listen to good music, and maybe meet Jordan. He didn't want it to be like this, though, that he'd get to meet her. He creeped towards the door and looked out. One guy patrolling, moving slowly and watching what was going on at the stage. All there was now was to wait, but there was the chance to take out one more guy before the distraction. Slowly opening the door, he grabbed the guy around the mouth and yanked him into the room. The door closed behind them and one heavy punch knocked the guy out.
Time to wait now.

“Okay, great. After I’m gone, just push this button here. The next two light cues should be a total stage blackout, and then flashing red light. Give me like 3 seconds of darkness before you push it again to bring the light back up.” If things went well, they would be able to get the real Jordan out of danger and cause the necessary distraction. Whether or not this masked man was actually her biggest fan, he was really about to help her out of a pinch. And risk his life to do so. It was ballsy, and yet he’d taken the time to tell her he wanted her to be careful. It made the Echo smile. She quickly took a few steps toward him, standing on her toes to press a kiss against his right cheek. “You too, Mystery Man.” After shooting him a quick wink, she closed her eyes and slowly faded into invisibility.
The real Jordan blinked several times as the consciousness of her Echo returned to her. There was no pain, it basically just took her a moment to process the information that had been gained in the half an hour or so the Echo had been in the world. It didn’t take long at all for the memories to merge. So some shadowy stranger was going to help them all out of this situation? It seemed almost too good to be true, but her Echo had seen the man taking out the lackeys before he’d even known she was in the tech booth, so the chances this was a setup were very slim.
Right on cue, the lights went black. Caused quite a stir among audience members and bad guys alike. Jordan stomped on the leader’s foot, breaking his hold for just long enough that she was able to make all five copies of herself materialize nearby. By the time the lights came back up, there were five Jordans on the stage struggling with the attackers. If she could cause enough ruckus and get enough attention, some of the attendees might be able to escape. Her band tried to help too, although none of them had any powers so they had to be a bit more covert about it so they didn’t get shot or something. Lots of tripping assholes and throwing things while they used the distraction to run backstage to safety. Meanwhile, the leader had recaptured the closest Jordan figure and was putting the gun to her temple while he barked orders at his cronies to capture them all so they could find out which one was the real Jordan. So far, so good. In Jordan’s mind, anyway. Hopefully she bought Mystery Man enough time.

Two left and the leader....
That was all Jason could think during the brief moment that she kissed his cheek to keep him calm. He knew it wasn't the real Jordan, but it felt real. Of course it did. He gave a small nod, a bit of a blush coming over his face. Unfortunately, he figured that she'd probably notice that. Being honest with himself, he knew she had millions of geeky fans like him, but few, if any had abilities like he did. He was the only one who would be able to effectively help her during this sort of situation, and that was exactly what he was going to do. It was just about timing now. He hit the button that she'd pointed out, and the lights went out. Chaos ensued, but it gave him just enough time to get the doors unjammed and get the people moving out to safety. They weren't all out before the lights came back on, but it was a start. And Jordan's copies, echoes, were already fighting the bad guys on stage.
That was his cue to get up there, and he did that with an acrobatic flair, flipping upwards, kicking off the balcony stand and landing behind one of the bad guys in a three point stance. Turning quickly, the bad guy threw a punch, then another, then another, which Jason dodged all three. "Stand still you costumed dork!" the bad guy yelled. Mid backflip, Jason answered, "Now why the fuck would I do that?" Okay, so costumed dork stung a little bit, and he almost replied to that, but he instead chose to slide along the ground and kick the guy's feet out from under him. The guy landed on his face, and he was out. He spun and tossed two shuriken at the other bad guy, both sticking deeply into the man's back. That would give the echo he was struggling with enough time to take him out.
Then they had a problem. The leader. He'd grabbed one of the echoes and had his gun to her head. "I don't know if this is the real you, but I get the feeling that putting her down would hurt the real one pretty damn bad," he said with authority in his voice. "And I get the feeling you're overcompensating for something," Jason answered quickly. That drew the leader's attention to him, and nearly drew the gun his way too. Damn it, didn't work. "You really want to taunt the guy with the gun?" he answered. Jason shrugged. "Yeah, I do it all the time actually. Get him good and angry, not thinking straight, get him to make mistakes, or monologue. You know?" he answered again. The man gave a confused look at the plucky hero. Jason shrugged and turned to look around, seeing that the people had all but cleared out now. "So let me ask you....how much money did you make from this little mistake?"
"Mistake?" the leader answered. Yeah, mistake. Having him distracted would give Jordan, or her Echo, just enough time to act. Jason turning slightly would also give the other Jordans a visual of the blunted dagger he was concealing in his hand. One quick distraction, one quick throw. And then it was seven on one.....

The Echo currently being held at gunpoint watched in amazement as the mystery man took out one bad guy after another with incredible martial and acrobatic skill. When the man was finally speaking to the leader of this gang, the Echo was trying to think of how she could best help him. Her savior would most likely be too afraid to attack if he thought she was the real Jordan. He’d claimed to be her biggest fan, after all, so he wouldn’t want to risk the real her getting shot in the head. Luckily, there was one easy way to clear up any confusion. The Echo lifted one stilettoed foot and slammed it back down on her would-be captor’s foot with all her might. In the moment of pained surprise, she winked at the masked hero. “Kick his ass…” she told him before she disappeared. A gunshot rang out in retaliation for the attack, but the Echo was already gone. Much to the leader’s frustration.
Leaving the leader to the masked man, the remaining four Echoes focused their attacks on the last man standing. The fact that he had a gun leveled the playing field pretty efficiently. He did manage to take two of them out, but then a sandbag dropped on his head from above and knocked him unconscious. If the leader was taken out by the mysterious man, that meant this crisis was now over. Well, not quite. The two Jordan figures set about gathering up the weapons and restraining the bad guys just in case they regained consciousness.
Once their work was done, the remaining Echoes vanished, leaving the masked man alone on the stage. Then the real Jordan came out from behind the curtain, having been the one who dropped the sandbag on the last lackey. The blackout had given her enough time to get to safety amid all the chaos. “Hey…” she said in greeting as she approached the man in the mask. “I probably couldn’t have taken them on without your help. So thanks. You probably saved my life tonight, not to mention the rest of the crowd you helped escape.” How she’d be able to thank him for all of that, she wasn’t sure. She’d have to think of something, though, and fast. At least one of the fans who’d escaped probably called the cops. Soon they’d be swarming around the building, and this guy would probably have to make himself scarce unless he wanted his identity revealed.

What should have went through Jason's mind immediately after the echo disappearing was how cunning that action was. But what actually went through his mind was, 'holy shit, she winked at me!' He was squealing like a schoolgirl on the inside, but hearing the gunshot shook him from that and he flipped forward immediately, bringing his foot down to kick the gun out of the leader's hand. Jason narrowly dodged a punch from the leader. "You're pretty fast," he teased the bad guy, as he dodged another couple of punch attempts. "Hey..." "Uhm..." "Wait...." "Excuse me...." he said with each dodge, leaping upwards after the last dodge to avoid a sweep kick. "Where do you study?" he asked as he came crashing back down on the man's leg, breaking it just below the knee. Even Jason shuddered at the sound. "Damn it, you costumed freak!" the bad guy yelled.
"That's very hurtful," Jason responded. "You broke my fucking leg, you retard!" the bad guy yelled. "Okay so maybe that hurt a little more. Hey! I'm not retarded!" Jason quickly answered. He pulled his collapsable staff from it's portion of his belt and extended it with a flick of the wrist, then with two strikes, one from each end, knocked out the leader. He pushed a button to collapse the staff again and replaced it on his belt. He quickly, and admittedly very childishly, kicked the bad guy in the ribs one last time. "I'm not a retard," he said. It was a good thing that his mask covered most of his face, since his expression would have directly contradicted his statement. He was in the middle of another childish action, sticking his tongue out at the downed enemy when he heard her voice again. He quickly straightened up and cleared his throat. Holy shit, that had to be the real Jordan!
"Hi. Oh it's....just what I do....," he said timidly. "I'm Jas...," he started to say, but quickly covered his mouth. Not that he'd mind her knowing his true name, but what if one of these guys was faking being unconscious? "The Rook," he said. He knew it wasn't exactly an intimidating name, but he wasn't really that intimidating either. He didn't use a voice changer or lower his tone at all. He was just Jason. "If it makes you feel any better, the start of the show was insanely great," he said with a smile. "I'm your biggest fan.....wait, you already know that, because of the echo. That's frickin' cool by the way." He was completely starstruck, and of course, head over heels already. "You're great. Just an amazing entertainer, a beautiful voice, and insanely hot....I ummm...." he stopped before he embarrassed himself any more.

It was cute that he was just as nervous to see the real her as he had been around her Echo. Even after everything they’d just been through. To a certain extent it made sense. He did claim to be her biggest fan, after all. That meant he’d probably already been here at the venue when the attack started. She couldn’t help but wonder which member of the crowd he’d been. There had been one hot guy in the front who’d caught her eye early on, but she hadn’t been able to focus on any one person for very long while she was performing. Then the attack had started, and obviously she’d been distracted after that.
The true tragedy was that this man, who was obviously a big fan of hers and her band, had only gotten to hear the very beginning of their set. Everyone who had paid to be here tonight to see her had gotten their lives threatened instead of the show they’d taken time out of their busy lives to see. They would try to convince the owners of the venue to give refunds to anyone who asked, since she wasn’t sure whether or not rescheduling the concert would be possible given the band’s schedule. Plus the venue probably had stuff going on damn near every night. For this man, though, a refund didn’t seem like enough. There had to be some way for her to make it up to him. He’d saved her life. She owed him more than just a ‘thank you’. She laughed when he quickly covered his mouth, then recovered and gave her his hero name. “The Rook, huh? Definitely better than ‘Mysterious Masked Guy’.” Which, of course, was what she’d been calling him in her head before now.
He even mentioned the beginning of the concert. Yep, he’d definitely been here before the attack. Her smile faded a little. “I’m sorry you didn’t get a chance to see the rest of it. I was really hyped up for tonight. We were gonna debut a new song I’ve been working on…” Now she felt even worse. Anyone who called himself her biggest fan would have loved to see that. And now she was going to have to perform the song for the first time at… “Holy shit, wait! I almost forgot.” She patted the pocket on her shorts and smiled triumphantly. “So, the band planned this VIP after-party thing at that club Elysium tonight. Gonna do a couple of songs and then just hang out, have some drinks…” She pulled out a small, black metallic card with the band’s logo on it. Jordan took a couple more steps toward The Rook and offered him the item. “If you wanna come, this card will get you in. If that’s not really your scene, it’ll also get you in to any of the band’s shows, full VIP and backstage access. Just show the card everytime when they ask for your ticket.” It didn’t entirely make up for saving her life, but it was something at least.

For all the trouble that had been caused by the group of men who'd entered, one thing that Jason couldn't deny is that he did get to meet Jordan. The real Jordan. And God she was beautiful, even more so in person. He couldn't believe that. They say never meet your idols, but in this case, she didn't disappoint. He chuckled at her comment about mysterious masked guy. "Yeah well, it isn't the greatest name, I know. It's hard to find one that isn't taken to be honest. Not like I could call myself the Nightwalker or anything. Sheesh, if I tried to do things his way I'd probably be dead already." Wait....did he just say sheesh? Really? Who the hell says sheesh? In his own mind he slapped himself. He was rambling again of course. "God, you're beautiful," he accidentally said out loud.
A quick kick again to the downed leader, not a hard kick, but more to just make a point. "Yeah, some asshole always has to ruin the good things." His heart did sink when she mentioned the new song. He would have really loved to have heard it. He'd admit to himself that he was heartbroken now. He'd probably go cry into his pillow later. "Really gotta wash that thing," he mumbled incoherently. Then something else came to her attention. His head tilted just a bit as she produced a card from one of her pockets. Did she know that she already had his heart in one of those pockets? Stop it, Jason. He silently scolded himself. "Are you kidding? That sounds great," he said excitedly. "Elysium," he said softly, thinking for a moment. "No, I've never been there but I've heard it's a nice-ish place. I'll definitely make my way there." He knew that they would have to clear out soon. "Thank you so much!" he practically squealed, but managed to stop himself from embarrassing himself.....barely.
He did step closer then. "I'm Jason," he said in a hushed tone. Still wouldn't do for the bad guy to hear him. But he knew the leader was out when there was no reaction from the little kick. Jason turned the card over in his hands a few times, letting a smile cross his face with each turn. "I'm gonna hold onto this forever," he said excitedly. He could hear sirens then, and with a heavy breath and an exaggerated nod, he gave a small smile. "We should go. I'm looking forward to seeing you later tonight."

Hearing the man’s uncertainty about his choice of alias was curious to Jordan. She didn’t see anything wrong with it. “I think it’s cool. My favorite piece in chess, actually. You know...on the rare occasion that I play.” She wasn’t very good at it, and didn’t make time for it often. Brains and strategy were not her forte by any means. She was an artist through and through. The kind of person who’d forced her way into a certain amount of success purely because she couldn’t bear the idea of doing anything else with her life. It had to be music, or it was a waste. “Is that weird? It always seemed like a sturdy, powerful piece to me.” Yep, probably weird, but that was the way her mind worked. She didn’t see things like most other people. She liked to think that fact contributed to her success.
Her gift seemed to really make him happy. She was glad. She couldn’t just give passes to everyone who’d missed out on the concert tonight unfortunately. They would have to be content with refunds. This man, though, who’d saved her life had earned something much more special. “Great! I’m glad you’re coming. You’ll get to hear the new song after all.” She giggled when he thanked her. It was always nice to meet a real fan, made her feel like those few people who really connected with her song lyrics understood a piece of her soul. When that superfan happened to be a superhero on top of it… “Hey, it was the least I could do to thank you.” Part of her still didn’t feel like it was enough.
His blue eyes held her gaze for a moment as he stepped closer, and she felt a small chill up her spine as he whispered his real name. “Jason…” she whispered back, equally concerned with making sure any bad guy still in the vicinity wouldn’t hear it if they happened to be conscious. She wanted to tell him that it was nice to meet him or something to that effect, but words were failing her for once in her life. Then she heard the sirens, and the masked man telling her it was now time for them to part. “Right. I’m looking forward to seeing you, too.” Hopefully he would make his way to Elysium tonight, and would come talk to her rather than staying in the shadows to protect his identity. Not that she’d blame him if he did that, either. Secret identities were important to heroes like him. Still she was curious about the face behind the mask. She walked toward the exit, where she knew the rest of her band would probably be nearby, but turned back in the doorway. “See you in a couple hours…”

"Chess piece," Jason whispered. He hadn't even thought about it in that way. He'd come up with his superhero name solely based on hearing someone once say that the Rook would be a cool superhero name. So he stole it.....sue him. It was really more like borrowing anyway, because it wasn't like he was going to do this forever. He'd have to retire from it eventually. He shook his head when she asked if that was weird. "No. But even if it were it would be okay. Normal is boring after all." Normal wasn't exactly something he knew anything about either. But that wasn't really important now was it? He smiled as she seemed happy to have given him the pass and that he was going to show up. And oh was he happy to know he was going to get to hear the new song. That was a thrill in itself.
As the two were heading out he turned back quickly. "See you then," he answered before disappearing out the back. Using his acrobatic abilities he leaped up, bounding off the buildings nearby back and forth until he reached the roof. A few minutes later he was roof jumping towards his apartment. He stopped to remove the costume and mask once he'd done a sweep of the area and knew it was safe. He then entered his little apartment from the fire escape and closed the window behind him. After a quick shower, Jason grabbed some bread and made himself a sandwich. Then he was off again, hailing a cab to make his way to the club.
He would have to admit to himself once he got inside that he was very impressed with the place. It was large, but not overwhelmingly so, and well decorated without being gaudy. With a name like Elysium, he expected the place to be insanely decorated and huge. Guess that's what he got for assuming, huh? He made his way up to the line for the band and showed the card to the attendant, who quickly opened up the rope gate and let him through. "Have a seat anywher, sir. Enjoy the show." "Thanks," Jason answered and went in. He sat down and waited as he noted the band setting everything up.
