Jordan’s band immediately surrounded her once she’d rounded the corner, just relieved she was alright. Alive. At least partially because it meant they still had a career, of course. The band was great, and she wouldn’t be much of anything without them, but the same could be said in reverse as well. Without her as the face of the band, they would undoubtedly struggle. They could find another lead singer, but not like her. She was one of a kind. They wanted to know what had happened, so she told them her story. Leaving out a few important bits, of course, like when the Rook had revealed his name to her. Then she found herself having to rehash the story to the police before they let her leave. All the while, Jordan found herself watching the time. The last thing she wanted to do was have to cancel two shows because of this ordeal.
There wasn’t much time for her by the time she made it to the club, but she was able to freshen up and change at least. She could hear the dance music thumping from backstage. It was late, nearly midnight. Everyone already at the club was probably all liquored up by now. It didn’t matter. Some of those at the tables and on the dance floor had come just to see the few songs her band would play. And the chance to maybe meet them in person afterward while the band mingled and had a good time. For the first time in her life, there was only one member of the crowd in particular she was hoping to see. Hopefully he’d come like he said he would.
The club music stopped, which of course brought everyone’s attention to the stage. The band came on, performing two of their bigger hits to wild applause. Jordan grinned, though part of her was disappointed that the bright lights kept her from really being able to see anyone past the third row or so on the dance floor. She wanted to think she would be able to recognize Jason without his mask on, but in reality she wondered whether or not that would be true. “Alright guys, we’ve got one more song for you. It’s something new, and it goes out to our number one fan. You know who you are.” Many people cheered, probably thinking Jordan was talking about them in a more general sense. Jason, if he was out there, would know. The song itself was a real head-banger, one that the band was really proud of and would probably be their next big single.
The moment was over too soon, as always. They left the stage and the dance music came back on. Jordan waited a short while before making her way back out into the general floor of the club toward the bar. Of course she greeted all her fans who approached her, signing autographs or taking pictures when requested, but she was also looking around to see if she could spot him. Finally she made it to the bar and ordered a gin and tonic. “Great show tonight, sugar. Love the new song,” said the delightfully flamboyant bartender Jordan had come to know as Phil. “Thanks babe. Did you do something different to your hair?” “You know me, sugar. Always trying something different.” They did their usual Hollywood-style cheek kisses over the bar, before the man went off to make her drink.

Oh My God! Jason was so stoked that she'd mentioned him before they started the song. Wait....did he just say "Oh My God"? Dammit, Jason. He silently scolded himself, but he was just so damned excited about it. The smile on his face was not going to leave anytime soon. It didn't really hurt that he'd already taken a few shots, but he wasn't inebriated yet. Wouldn't do to meet Jordan again if he was plastered. He'd really make an ass of himself then. She might actually laugh about it, but he didn't want to take that chance. After the song, which was great of course, Jason waited a bit before he made his approach. He noted the exchange between Jordan and the bartender and then went to the bar. When the bartender came back with her drink, Jason ordered a screwdriver, heavy on the driver. The bartender smiled and went off.
He waited a few moments before saying anything, almost as if he was pretending he didn't notice her. The bartender came back with the drink and Jason took a few sips from it before he spoke. A little liquid courage, as they called it. Jason looked over to Jordan then. "Great song. Should definitely be your next single," he said with a smile. "Oh, uhm....biggest fan here. I'm Jason," he explained with a sheepish smile. He couldn't believe his was this close to her now, and not in his costume or beating up some vile bad guy who was trying to ruin her concert. "I'm really sorry about your show tonight. It started off so good," he said. Damn he had been so stoked to watch the band perform, but he still got that new song, and more importantly, he got to meet Jordan. "God, you're beautiful," he said, not meaning for it to have come out loud. He looked away for a brief moment, embarrassment on his face.
"Also, so you know, I don't make a habit of taking my costume everywhere. Don't have it with me now," he said with a laugh. Yep, the alcohol was starting to hit him now. He shook his head quickly. How stupid was he looking right now? What the hell? "I"m sorry," he offered again. "I"m just nervous to meet you again. Thought a little liquid courage would help." For fuck sake he faced down bad guys all the time. How was it that he was so scared to meet a woman? Maybe because it was the woman of his dreams..... Yeah.....that had to be it.

A couple of different men approached the bar soon after Jordan got there. Each time she was hoping it would be Jason, but was quickly able to rule out the possibility. She sipped at her drink as her eyes scanned the room. He had to be here. Her gut was telling her that he’d definitely come to see her. Them. The band. Not just her, obviously. Why the hell was she nervous? This guy was a fan, just like any other. Except that he’d saved her life. And had those baby blue eyes that she couldn’t get out of her mind.
A familiar voice off to her right. She’d been looking out mostly to the left since the majority of the bar was in that direction. Trust a vigilante to sneak up on her. She quickly turned her head with a grin, pausing for a moment when he was actually in full view. It was the man who’d drawn her attention at the concert in the front row. He’d caught her eye before, but now she really got a look at him up close. Oh, this was a problem. He was the picture perfect definition of her type, in addition to the adorable nervousness he was still feeling. For her, he spelled nothing but trouble. Jordan had never been particularly good at hiding her feelings, and tended to fall fast. He really thought she was beautiful? Aww… No, dammit Jordan you need to calm down. “Jason… wow. Hi.” She took a moment to compose herself before doing the thing she’d been planning to do all along when she saw him again: pull him into a big hug. The fact that he was absolutely gorgeous just meant it was a thousand times harder to pull away after it was over. Keeping ahold of his broad shoulders would be weird, right? Yes. But she couldn’t find the strength to pull away from him completely, so she left her hands on his forearms instead.
“Hey, don’t be nervous.” Was she talking to him or herself? Both, probably. ”I’m really glad you came. And that you didn’t bring the costume with you so I actually get to see your face.” Not that the costume itself wasn’t hot, but just getting to see him was even better. Knowing he was a total badass was just a bonus. “So you liked the new song? I’m glad. We wanted to make sure to play it tonight in case you were here.”

Jason already felt bad about having imbibed so many drinks. Though he wasn't drunk, he was close to a good buzz now, so he knew he had to slow down. His heart was just racing so hard right now. Maybe it hadn't been before because of the situation during how they'd met. Crazy to think that meeting this woman made him more nervous than facing down a group of bad guys. For all of his talent, skill, and pure ability, he wasn't one of those crime fighters that went into every fight confident. He fought with the proper amount of fear, and that usually got him out of the fight alive because he didn't take any necessary risks. At the same time though, that lack of willingness to act had also caused him to be unable to save people at times. It was a fine line to walk. But this woman just had him flustered.
'Holy shit, she's touching me,' quickly rang out through Jason's head, as he hugged her back. 'Fuck!....ice cream, cold showers, frozen pizzas.....' he continued, trying to keep himself composed. Jason caught the wow she said, but he didn't take it to mean anything more than just like a nice to see you again type of wow. He'd been told before that he was cute, or handsome, but he never really believed that. He wasn't the most confident of people. When she pulled away from the hug he noted her hands still on his forearms, and that brought a big smile to his face. He then sat down on the stool, letting his fingers drag slightly down her elbow, but not even really realizing that he was doing that. "Yeah, sorry," he said when she told him not to be nervous. How could he help it though?
"Oh, yeah, the new song is great. I really like that it's heavy. I usually dig heavier music like that. Your band is really the only one I like that isn't heavy and grungy," he said with a smile. Maybe that's because the lead singer was a total babe, and had an amazing voice to boot. He was happy to hear that she'd actually wanted to see his face. It made sense though, it had to be mulling about in her head who the guy was, and if she'd seen him at the concert before everything went to shit. "I'm really just glad we got those people out safe," he remarked, though he knew she'd feel the same. "So how long did it take you to write that one? The new song, I mean? I tried writing a song once and ten weeks later I still had nothing."

Yes! He hadn’t pulled away from her completely either. That was always a good sign. He already told you he thought you were beautiful like seven million times, dummy. Of course he’s not gonna just pull away. That might be true, but nothing in life was a given. She’d met fans who seemed almost afraid to touch her, like they were worried she might not be real or something. That always made her sad. She loved interacting with the fans, so having them put her up on that much of a pedestal could be a bummer. Part of her worried Jason might be like that too, that he wouldn’t be able to see that she was a normal woman with flaws and everything too. Hero worship was great and everything, especially at first, but after a while it was important for there to be at least one person in the world who saw and loved the real you.
She chuckled when he started talking about the kind of music he normally liked. “Grungy, huh? I’m a little surprised we caught your attention at all if that’s the kind of music you normally like. Yet here you are, our number one fan.”
Reminding her of what had happened earlier in the night made her smile fade a bit. “Me too. That’s the most important thing, really.” It was hard to forget an experience like having a gun to your head, like having an entire auditorium being held hostage. She was trying to forget because she’d needed to do the performance tonight, and wanted to have a good time now that it was over, but flashes of the fear kept popping into her head. She couldn’t help it, at least not yet. Eventually the fear would fade, right? Jordan finished off her drink and then placed her hand back exactly where it had been before: on Jason’s forearm. She felt safe here, close to him like this. If he hadn’t mentioned it, she might not have even remembered what had happened.
“How long? I mean, I try to write at least one song per day so the first draft of the lyrics was probably written in an hour, maybe? The finished product, though, that was days and weeks of experimentation and fine tuning with our producers and stuff. It’s a lot of work, actually.” A lot of people didn’t really care about, or even understand, all the hard work that went into creating an album. The extra tracks that you love but end up getting cut. All that mattered to most people was the finished product, and whether or not it was any good in their opinion or lived up to the standards of your older work. “The important thing is to learn when to turn off that critical side of your mind. Nothing wrecks your own creativity like you critiquing your own work before it’s even finished. Editing and polishing always come later. The important thing is to keep writing if that’s something you wanna do. Some of it will be total crap. Believe me, I’ve written some real stinkers in my time.”

It was odd to see a celebrity who loved her fans so much. They all had their fans to thank for their fame and fortune, but the majority of them seemed to easily forget that. Too easily really. When the world was busy telling you that you are perfect, it must be a simple thing to forget that you breathe and sleep and shit just like everyone else. But Jordan was different. Her head was still on her shoulders instead of up in the clouds. Okay she had to be a little in the clouds to be so imaginative and so good at lyrics and music, but she didn't let it go to her head is what Jason kept thinking. Conversely, Jason had a similar situation being a vigilante. People tended to worship them as well, considering that they did the one thing everyone wished they could do, stand up for themselves and everyone else. Everyone wanted to be a hero, even if it was just for one person.
"Yeah, I went through a phase when I was younger, never really grew out of it," he chuckled about the grungy music. But he was more than just a one trick pony in his musical tastes. "If it sounds good and has a good beat, I'm usually all for it. I just hate when a song gets overly repetitive." Write a lyric for fuck's sake! Too many artists got by just on their looks and on being able to make one line sound intriguing enough to feed to the masses. Jordan had actual talent, and Jason loved that.
He only nodded when she mentioned the most important thing. She was absolutely right. No one was hurt, and the bad guys got what was coming to them. Jason was glad of that. Truthfully he wasn't so sure though, that if it hadn't happened that way that he'd have actually gotten to meet her like this. Might have been a passing hello or maybe a short conversation, nothing like her just blowing him off or anything, but she led a busy life, he knew. Her fans were important to her. But he'd gotten to meet her face to face now in both of his identities. That was different for him.
"Oh, I can imagine that it is. Writing isn't really my thing, personally. I just toyed around with it once. Honestly I don't even remember any of the words or the tune I had in my head." Of course, he remembered it had been about a girl, but wasn't most music about the opposite sex? He listened to her talk about how her work was accomplished, and he was happy to do that. It was interesting, and the humility she spoke with was amazing to him. "They play lighter songs at the cafe I work at. One of yours though, from your first album. Wicked Ways. I get happy every time they play it."

“Well if it makes you feel any better, no way in hell I could ever fight like that. We all have our gifts.” It took all kinds to make this world work. If everyone was an artist, they would still be living in caves and would probably starve to death because there would be no one left to hunt. Jason was more the survival type. The hunter. More in tune with his physical abilities than damn near anyone else in the city, probably. And Jordan found that unbelievably sexy. It was difficult for her to keep this much distance between their bodies, to be satisfied with just a light touch of her hands on his arms. Calming down was necessary if she didn’t want to make a complete ass of herself in front of this man. Just because he’d called her beautiful a couple of times didn’t mean she should throw herself at him.
So he worked at a cafe outside of his hero life. Jordan smiled. That was so cute and down-to-earth. No one would ever suspect that someone like him would be capable of taking out a bunch of armed men basically on his own. Well, she’d helped a little, but still. She wouldn’t have been able to do it without him. That much was the absolute truth. “Oh man, Wicked Ways. That was one of my favorites, but damn I was in a crazy place when I wrote it…” They didn’t play it in concerts anymore, since one of the other singles from that album was the one that had put them on the map. Wicked Ways had been more or less forgotten by the masses of the fans. Jason still liked it, though, and that made her happy.
Her drink was gone now, and Jordan came to a stunning realization. “Holy shit, I’m totally monopolizing your time. I’m sure you want to meet the rest of the band too, right!?” She took his hand and pulled him along to the VIP section where the rest of her crew was enjoying the music and drinks were flowing. “Gang, this is my friend Jason. He’s a big fan. Jason, this is the gang. Marcus, Torrin, Emrys, and Jack.” The rest of the group didn’t know this was the man who had literally saved them all, but if Jordan said he was cool then he was cool. Torrin and Jack, the two more reserved guys, just nodded their head in the new guy’s direction. Marcus and Emrys were the ones who actually approached to shake Jason’s hand. “We were just starting to wonder where you wandered off to, J… Nice to meet you, man.” Marcus teased with a knowing look in Jordan’s direction. “You guys need a drink? Manager brought over some champagne on the house.”

"That....does make me feel a little better," Jason said with a smile and a small chuckle. "Still, you were no slouch. We both did what we had to do." It wasn't the first time that Jason had saved a room full of people, but it had always been by himself before. He'd never had help, and this time he'd gotten help from the most unlikely of places. Never in a million years would he have expected her to do what she'd done. It just seemed like she was getting more and more awesome by the minute. And so damn beautiful...
He wasn't ashamed of his life outside of the hero stuff. Sure, it was quaint, but that was part of the effect. Who would think a simple waiter could kick your ass? Jason was pretty well built, but he always kept an unassuming persona outside of the costume, avoiding conflict and often keeping his head down. He didn't make eye contact with a lot of people. He couldn't help it right now with Jordan. He had to keep his eyes on hers. "A crazy place? I can imagine you had to be going through something to write lyrics like that. Couldn't have been an easy time. But you got a great song out of it." He shrugged. That was something wasn't it? Silver lining? The last night that Jason worked it was the first song he'd heard when he clocked in. After that, he knew it would be a good night.
When she mentioned meeting the band, Jason's eyes lit up. Of course he wanted to meet the band. Jordan was the star, of course, but she was so down to earth that it was about her band just as much. For her at least. And it seemed that her band knew that. Oh....My....God! Jason couldn't believe his eyes as he passed through the VIP section with her, her hand on his still. "H...HI, guys," he said nervously. For fuck's sake he was meeting his favorite band! "Great to meet you too, Marcus," he answered. "Dude, your drumming is easily all time top five." The guy really was a master of percussion. Then came the question of the drink. Jason had already imbibed quite a bit, but he was okay still, and nodded. "Sure," he answered.
