James stood behind the table in his lab, looking through a microscope. He pulled away and jotted down a few notes on his notepad, then pinched the bridge of his nose. Closing his eyes, he pulled his hand away and set it down on the table. He had been working on this project for nearly two weeks now, and it was a big one. There was no room for error at all, not when the man who the project was for was one of the most influential, and dangerous, crime bosses on the entire east coast. Normally, James wouldn't even accept a job from someone like that, but what was being asked he just couldn't not take on. Mr. Caito was going blind, and he wanted a set of bionic eyes to save his vision. How could he not accept that challenge?
Progress had been kind of slow. Based on the DNA samples he'd been sent, he was confident that he could make the eyes compatible with Mr. Caito's genetic code. All he had to do was figure out what the one little thing that was nagging at the back of his brain was. There was just something, and he couldn't put his finger on it. Oh well, back to work. He poured over the medical charts, matching up genetic code and looking for every piece of information that he could find. He looked back through medical history, finding nothing that would affect the procedure when it came to installing the new eyes. Installing? Was that the right term for it? He thought about the procedure and just how stressful that would be, and breathed a heavy sigh at that. He looked over towards the area of his lab where he had a small television. The Beezid.com commercial was on, and he couldn't help but think the girl in the commercial was pretty cute. He shrugged and clicked off the television. It wasn't really anything but background noise anyway.
He turned his attention to the actual eyes. They were both half finished, and he was working on the wiring. So back to the magnifying glass and the soldering iron. Maybe he just needed a little music to help him. He turned in his spinning chair and rolled over to the radio. Hitting the power button, he spun back around in his chair and rolled back to the magnifying glass. "If you're having girl problems I feel bad for you, son. I got ninety nine problems but a bitch ain't one," he sang along. Jay-Z was one of his favorites. He was glad that was the first song that he heard.
He got so into working and singing along with the radio, he actually had a pretty good singing voice, that he didn't even hear the door to his lab slide open as the next song started. "I was at the top but felt like I was in the basement, number one spot and now she found her my replacement. I swear now I can't take it, knowin' somebody got my baby," he sang along. He wasn't the biggest fan of Nelly, but he liked this particular song.

Tension had been high in the house lately. Rosalia didn’t really know what was going on, but then again she could be fairly oblivious when something wasn’t entirely about her. All she knew was that her father was worried about something, and was now sending her out on an errand. Of course the brunette loved her father, and was eager to see whether or not the man’s vision could be saved, but he had literally dozens of people he could send to go talk to this scientist. She was one of the few he could really trust, he’d said. She didn’t know what he was so worried about, but fine. There was no strong reason for her not to go. And besides, it got her out of the house. Maybe she would go shopping or something when she was done. Get a pedicure. That sounded wonderful. The longer she could stay out, the better, though she doubted her father would be particularly amused by her going out clubbing and preventing him from hearing the news he craved until tomorrow morning.
According to her father’s right hand man, Vicente, this was the place. She walked in first, her bodyguard following immediately after since, as far as she knew, she had nothing to fear in some scientific lab or other. Besides, she knew the man inside was no threat to her. They didn’t know each other particularly well, but they had met a time or two when James has been summoned to the house by her father. During negotiations for the job was the first time, if memory served her correctly. It would be nice to see him again, even if she had to put away her flirtatious nature to do it. It was a strict rule of hers not to flirt with men that worked for her father. Such a shame.
“Sounds to me like you may have missed your calling, Mr. Sanders,” she finally said after listening to him singing along with the radio for a while. The smallest smile graced her lips for a moment before fading slowly away as she made her way further into the room. Now that she’d made her presence known, she figured it would be alright for her to do so. “Sorry for disturbing you.” A quick glance down at the table told her that this man was currently hard at work on the project he’d been given. As far as she could see, there was no need for her father to worry. “My father wanted to make sure you have everything you need.” A call to check in would probably have been more than enough, but Eugenio Caito was very much the old-fashioned type and preferred to have this kind of sensitive conversation in person. Understandable, what with the way communications had gone over the last hundred years or so. No privacy anymore. There were eyes and ears on every e-message and holographic phone call that was ever placed. A thought which had often highly amused her when sending one of her boyfriends a particularly steamy piece of mail, but she could understand why her father would want to avoid that sort of thing.

Hard at work, James was off in his own little world. And he was making progress. He found, and fixed a few things that made him feel a lot more comfortable about how the procedure would go. He was so intent on his work that he barely even registered the voice behind him. But he did hear her, and he knew better than to let her words go unanswered. Even if she didn't do anything about it, those bodyguards of hers might, and he really didn't want to have to use his abilities. "Uhm, I, uhm, sorry. I wasn't aware of a visit. But no, you're not disturbing me at all. Actually, I've made quite a bit of progress." He couldn't help but to inconspicuously check her out. She was a beautiful young woman. If not for the fact that she was a mobster's daughter, he might have already gone out on the limb of asking her on a date. Really? Who was he kidding? There was no way he'd muster up the courage to ask a woman that gorgeous such a thing. Back to business, he reminded himself.
"So, Ms. Caito, if you will," he directed her to the microscope. He wasn't sure how intelligent she was, so he'd speak in laymen's terms as much as possible, without sounding like he was trying to belittle her brain, because he wasn't trying to do that. "You'll see the way that the sample bonds with the tech under at the cellular level. It's really very exciting,"he said with a smile. "There's a cohesion there that I can honestly say I've never seen before. Either your father is already an extraordinarily remarkable man.....or I've stumbled upon some dumb luck in the experimentation." It was a thought that had run through his mind quite a bit. Did Mr. Caito have some sort of abilities? That would make this so much easier if he knew that. Unfortunately, he couldn't find an answer in the man's DNA. Strange. It wasn't like James would out the man if he did have abilities, especially considering that the mob boss likely already knew about James' abilities too.
If she looked, she'd see the way that the cells bonded with the nanotechnology. It truly was a beautiful thing to see. "I can't imagine that this could be duplicated. Too many variables. But I have everything I need. Really, just a couple more days work to make sure there won't be any surprises, and I'll be ready to perform the surgery. Your father's vision will be like never before. He'll blow twenty twenty right out of the water. The acuity of it will be astounding. It may take him some time to get used to it.....jarring being able to see in such fine detail after the blurriness he's said he experiences, you understand. But a few hours should suffice to acclimate himself." He gave a slight smile after explaining. He took a deep breath and picked up a pen...anything to distract himself from looking at her too much, too amorously. Respect her, he kept telling himself. Don't be stupid, James.

He seemed flustered. Whether it was because he’d been so absorbed in his work that she’d really caught him by surprise, or he was that way naturally she couldn’t be sure. It was kinda cute, actually. Thank goodness he kept the subject to strictly the matter at hand, her father’s new eyes. He seemed excited, proud of the work he’d done. He had a really nice smile. It was really too bad that he spent so much time bent over a microscope. His looks could have gotten him a modelling contract easily. Not that there was anything wrong with being smart, but it meant that they didn’t appear to have much in common. Intellectual types didn’t tend to be much fun. More importantly, they tended to look down on people like her. Spoiled, narcissistic… those were words she heard quite often.
Instead of asking her to stay away and not touch anything for fear of her breaking it, he was inviting her to take a look at the technology herself. She did have to admit that she was curious, so she allowed herself to be guided over. “You talk like you had nothing to do with it, Mr. Sanders. My father would not have come to you with this job unless you were the best.” She bent forward to place her eyes against the eyepiece. It was so strange to her, foreign. She couldn’t say that she entirely understood what was happening there, but she recognized that it was the salvation her father had been searching for her. When she pulled away from the microscope again, she was smiling. “Thank you! You’re going to make our family very happy.” She leaned forward and kissed his cheek. Hopefully he wouldn’t find that too weird. Cheek-kisses were an Italian form of greeting, so she’d grown up thinking it was even more normal than shaking hands.
If there was nothing he needed her to provide for the job, then there wasn’t really any reason for her to stick around. That was really too bad. “Is there… anything papa will need to do to prepare? Fasting or taking vitamins or something?” It was possible that James had already gone over this information with her father, but she wanted to make sure all her bases were covered before she left. After all, the sooner she left here, the sooner she would have to return to the house. She was going to take advantage of her father specifically requesting her to go on an errand for him. And if that meant spending a little more time in the company of a brilliant, handsome scientist well… who could blame her for wanting to take her time and be thorough?

Okay, so she wasn't opposed to looking through the microscope. That was a good thing. Likely, she wouldn't really understand what was happening, but to see it was truly something remarkable. Mr. Caito's vision was going to be as good, if not better, than any superhuman's. "I, well, that's very nice of you to say. I like to think I'm the best," he said with a laugh. "This is seriously something I've never seen done before, so I'm even a little surprised at myself for being able to bring it about." He accepted the cheek kiss without any indication either way of embarrassment or acknowledgement. He knew he had to at least somewhat stay solid to ensure she didn't look at him the wrong way.
Her next question drew his attention away from that. Thank, God. That made it so much easier for him to not have his eyes perusing her curvaceous form. "I'd recommend a meal the previous night of the surgery that is full of protein, and a good night's sleep the night before as well. He'll want to be rested, or else his body might reject the serums necessary to keep him alive during the surgery. I'll have to do some very vital cuts. One mistake could leave him permanently blinded, with no hope of ever recovering his sight. I don't want that to happen, obviously. Mr. Caito has been good to me, and I want to return that by doing the absolute best job that I can for him." It was the truth. Mr. Caito had been almost single handedly responsible for acquiring almost every piece of equipment in James' lab. If it weren't for the man, James would have a microwave, a mini fridge, clerical supplies and a few beakers and bunsen burners. There was no job that James wouldn't give his all towards for the man he respected so much.
That respect would go on towards the man's daughter as well. She deserved it every bit as much as he did, even if she was considered narcissistic or shallow to others. He wouldn't treat her that way. "Other than that, I'd say that he can do what he would normally do. Just try to keep stress down as much as possible. Oh, and drink lots of fluids too." James was going to make certain that he did a good bit of praying for steady hands the night before as well. He had nothing but desire to give the man exactly what he wanted. "It's going to be a long procedure, probably about four hours, maybe a little less," he explained. His attention was quickly turned to the television that one of her bodyguards had turned on. Something was going on near the University.

Good, he didn’t seem to be weirded out by the action she’d taken. She knew that some people were thrown off guard by it. Instead, the conversation seemed to flow along quite naturally. He seemed to really enjoy talking about his work. It was comfortable for him. That was a good thing, especially that he didn’t act like he was afraid of her because of who her father was. It did make it a little difficult to get to know him on a more personal level, but that was probably for the best anyway. He worked for her father and that made him off limits. She needed to keep reminding herself of that. She smirked a little to herself, thinking that would have to be her mantra while she was around him. Luckily that would only be a couple more times. Once the surgery was over and her father had recovered, there would be no real reason for her to ever see him again. On second thought, she considered that to be more unlucky than anything.
“I’ll make sure he does. Especially the part about keeping his stress low,” she said to him with a smile. Her father had seemed to be worried about something lately, but she could speak to some of his most trusted people to make sure that, for a few days at least, things were handled so that he could rest and recover fully before taking back the reins on the family business. She knew Vicente especially would be willing and eager to help in any way possible.
When James’ attention turned to the tv, Rosalia looked in that direction as well. Reports of a car fire in the south parking lot of the university. Camera crews were on their way, but no one was onsite as yet. The south lot… “Dominic, can you call Reggie please?” Her bodyguard was quick to comply, pulling his phone out of his pocket. It probably wasn’t their car that was on fire, because that would be crazy. But just in case, she wanted to get ahold of the driver and make sure everything was okay. “He’s not answering, Miss Caito.” Now Rosalia frowned. Reggie was practically glued to that phone of his. “Want me to go check on him, miss?”
After a moment’s consideration, the brunette nodded. “Yes please. Take Bruno too, just in case.” That would leave her here alone with James, but if there was danger nearby it wasn’t in here so she wasn’t expecting there to be any trouble.

James nodded, knowing that she'd do just as she said and keep the stress down when the day came for the surgery to happen. But the television was what had really caught his attention. This was the first time that he'd ever seen something like this happen so near the school. It couldn't be riots, because the general mood around the place was happy. Hell, even the students seemed like they liked it here. Morale was good. So that could only mean one thing, that there was some villain causing chaos around the place. Well, in his mind that was the only possible thing.
He heard Rosalia giving her bodyguards the "what to do", so there was no need in saying anything there. He went to the closest window. There wasn't a good view of the parking lot from here, but he could see the smoke billowing up from it. That was never a good sight. He gave a pained look and went to his computer. A few keystrokes and he had the security camera feed pulled up on the television. "Oh, you're shitting me," he said sharply. James didn't cuss that often. So when he did it meant something. "Uhm, we have a slight problem," he said as he looked back to Rosalia. Apparently, those Augury soldier fellas were causing problems around the school. They couldn't be looking for him, since he didn't go out often enough for them to know about him. Had they somehow figured out who he was? He lowered his head for a moment.
The ground shook, and that quickly pulled his attention. He looked at her and gave an agonized expression. This was not good. "So, okay, this is going to seem a little weird. Well, very weird." He figured she may have some idea of what he was, being as her father knew, but to see it was something a bit more crazy. The ground shook again, and he stumbled towards her, narrowly stopping before running into her. A window burst in, and an Augury soldier landed in the room. It aimed it's wrist blaster towards James. He took a deep breath and moved forward quickly. In what would seem like the blink of an eye, James tripled in size, to just over eighteen feet tall and his hand went forward, slapping the Augury soldier off into the distance. James looked back at Rosalia to make sure she was okay. He shrugged and grew bigger, big enough that he could set down his hand and she could climb up onto it and they'd be able to get out of there. "I promise, I'll keep you safe," he said slowly. "But we have to get out of here and find somewhere to hide out."

A problem? That turned out to be a bit of an understatement, as Rosalia discovered when the robot crashed through the window and moved like it was going to attack James. For a second, she was sure they were truly fucked, but in the blink of an eye the scientist shot up in size. He had to be what, twenty feet tall now? Damn close if not entirely. It freaked her out a bit, at least in part because he’d been so close to her when he started to grow. He’d stepped in front of her, in fact, most likely for her protection. And she felt surprisingly safe, considering the fact that his adversary was some weird robot that apparently had built-in weapons all over the place. He just swatted the damn thing away. Rosalia was impressed.
Now that the robot had been sent flying, she figured they were safe. Well, maybe not actually. There could be more, right? Were they hunting him specifically or just attacking anything that moved? She couldn’t know for sure, but it was always better to be safe than sorry. Apparently James thought it was too early to relax too, because he grew even bigger and reached down to pick her up. Just how big could this guy get? After a moment of hesitation, she stepped onto his hand and grabbed hold of his thumb to help keep her balance on the soft, uneven surface. “Do you… umm… know of a place we can go?” she asked as her own mind tried to think of somewhere safe to hide. The only place that she knew for sure was her father’s house, but that was on the other side of town. Too far if there were more of those robots running around.
She remembered a news story from a few weeks ago that was likely to be relevant. “That was one of those Augury things, wasn’t it? It was after you?” she asked him, figuring that he was far more likely to know the answer to her questions. If the robot was just after him, it might actually be better for her if he left her behind, logically speaking. That wasn’t what she wanted at all, though. She felt safe with him, so she wanted to stick with him until this was all over and done. He’d already said he’d protect her, and she trusted him to do just that. She just hoped those things didn’t come back and ruin the lab and all the work he’d done for her father. If he had to start all over again, would he be able to duplicate those results that he’d been so optimistic about just a few minutes ago. Rosalia bit her lower lip nervously just thinking about the possibilities.

Honestly, getting these things away from his research was part of why James needed to get away. But there was no doubt in his mind that Rosalia would be safest with him. He was the only person in the entirety of the staff of his laboratory with any abilities. So everyone else would be safe if he got away. Luckily, she was quick to get into his hand, so she saw the reasoning. "Yes," he answered her question. He lifted her up into the air, and cupped his other over her to protect her from the winds and the altitude. With that, he took off running. With only a few dozen strides, he was across the city along the beach, where he set her down and shrunk back down to regular size. Dropping to his knees, he took a few deep breaths before looking back up at her. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to make sure you were out of harm's way. I know your father would want you safe. They won't find us here."
He pointed off into the short distance. There stood a small cabin. "That place is owned by a friend of mine. He said I could come here anytime I needed a refuge. I, uhm, kinda think this situation applies to that." He gave a small grin and got back to his feet to lead her to the cabin. It was small, no doubt too small for her liking. He'd seen the house her family lived in. The cabin was about the size of one of their bathrooms. The amount of money that family had was just insane. James could never imagine having that amount of financial security, or what they'd done to gain that amount.
Once they were inside, he closed the door and took another deep breath. Growing and shrinking back in size often wore him out. It wasn't every time that he was this tired, but running like that all the while trying not to step on anyone was very taxing. He moved slowly over to the couch and plopped down, laying on his back with his right leg hanging over the arm of the couch and his head in the corner of the other side. "My powers wear me out sometimes. Growing anyway. Shrinking back to normal size isn't that bad," he explained. "Are you okay?"

With his free hand covering her, it was difficult for Rosalia to tell which way they’d gone. He ran for a while, but surprisingly it wasn’t that long before he’d stopped. It made sense, she guessed. He was so big that he could cover a lot of ground with a single step. He uncovered her, and immediately she could smell the ocean. She’d always loved that smell. But that meant he’d taken them all the way to the outskirts of the city. Wow. She stood up, brushing herself off as she watched the scientist return to normal size. “Thank you,” she said. She knew that he’d only saved her because of who her father was, but it was still nice of him to do so. She felt safe with him.
Nearby, she saw the cabin. She hadn’t really noticed it until he pointed it out, but still. It was a pretty cute little place. “Oh, it’s cute!” she said with a grin. That probably sounded way more stuck up than she’d meant it to. She genuinely liked the look of the place. Her father’s house was obviously much bigger, but there were times when she would prefer a little more privacy. Men who worked for her father were always around. Well, James technically worked for him as well, but being in a place where there weren’t a dozen armed men around would be nice for a change. She followed him inside, letting out a little sigh of relief when the door closed. Hopefully those robot things would not find them here.
Now that she could relax a little, she turned her attention toward her savior. James was looking a little under the weather, and it worried her a bit. Luckily he was quick to explain himself. It was his powers that had caused his exhaustion. “I’m fine, thanks to you.” She looked at him again. “You okay? I could… ummm… make some tea or something?” Obviously she didn’t know where anything was since this wasn’t her place, but she figured that if she went to the kitchen she could find something hot to drink and a mug to put it in. This was the Northeast, after all. It got cold. The tiny cabin even had a fireplace. It was cozy, and could even be romantic under the right circumstances.

James just nodded when she thanked him. He'd nearly thrown up. He usually didn't grow to that height that quickly, and it had really screwed with his system. But it wasn't so bad that he didn't let out a chuckle when she said the place was cute. "My friend actually built this place by himself. Hell of a carpenter, he is." Once they were inside and he'd plopped down, he heard her answer if she was okay by saying that she was, and that it was thanks to him. He gave a smile at that, and then craned his neck a bit to get comfortable. When she asked about getting him something, he answered. "The, uhm, fridge is fully stocked. Should be some drinks in there. Anything would be fine, thank you."
He waited for a moment as she made her way in there, and turned his body to sit up. He caught a brief glance of her as she passed the wall. Damn the woman had some curves. He shook his head vigorously, pushing aside any thoughts like that. It really wouldn't do. She was basically a princess, even though she didn't seem the type to overly act like she was. She seemed much more down to earth than most. He rested his elbows and forearms on his knees and leaned forward. He knew the two of them would be safe here. The place had been built very well, and it was out of the way. No one would think to look for them here. "Cell service is good out here. You can call and let your father know you're okay. I'd wait for a little bit though. Just in case they're smart enough to track that, I mean." He didn't honestly figure that they would. They'd likely be too busy trying to find him. He was the superhuman after all.
He stood up and went to the window. It was a very nice view over the ocean. Just wait until the sun started to set though. Then it was just beautiful. He looked back towards where she would be. She hadn't looked back at him yet, but he could just see her. "Hell of a view," he said after a deep breath.

Rosalia frowned a little when she opened the refrigerator. She’d been hoping for some wine for herself, but it didn’t look like there was anything in there she drank. It was kind of stuck up, but her father was very particular about what kind of refreshment passed his lips. She had picked up some of that as well, although she was still not as picky as the old man. At least there were plenty of non-alcoholic options. She grabbed one bottle of apple juice and one water before returning to James’ side. “Here, pick one,” she offered. Her plan of course was to take whichever he turned down. It seemed like he was a little woozy from the use of his powers, which was understandable of course, so she thought something with some flavor and sugar might help him recuperate a little faster. Or if he was feeling unwell he might prefer just plain water.
In response to his comment about contacting her father, Rosie nodded. “I know he’ll worry, but I agree that it’ll be best to wait a couple of hours.” Or maybe even until nightfall, just to be sure. She wasn’t sure how long James would need to stay here to avoid being found, and she knew that her father would most likely want her home as soon as possible once he’d heard about her ordeal. If James could not bring her back, maybe her father would send some of his men. Probably. She wasn’t in any hurry to get back to the mansion, though. She was safe here. Her desire to get to know the scientist better was also a factor, but she knew that she had to be careful there.
Once he’d chosen his preferred beverage, she cracked open the other bottle and took a long drink. “So Mr. Sanders, I was wondering…” Wait… “I’m so sorry, you’re a doctor aren’t you? Dr. Sanders?” Some people really took that kind of thing personally, and she couldn’t altogether blame them. They’d worked hard to earn those doctorate degrees and wanted the respect that they commanded. If she’d been addressing him by the wrong title she would feel bad. Looking at him apologetically, her real hope was that she hadn’t offended him too badly. Though he hadn’t said anything before now, so maybe he didn’t care? Rosalia didn’t want to assume that. She wanted him to think well of her. Coming off as rude or ignorant would not accomplish that goal.

"Thank you," James said wearily as he took the apple juice from her. He popped the cap off and took a long swig. Pulling it away from his lips, he swallowed then took a deep breath. His eyes blinked twice, then closed for a brief moment. "Apple juice has always been my favorite. I'm sorry there wasn't more in the refrigerator. I usually have it more stocked."
He nodded when she responded to waiting to call her father. The man would undoubtedly want to know that his little girl was safe, but now wasn't the time. Despite James' current wooziness, he would do everything he could to keep her just that. "Just long enough that I'm in good enough shape to size up again and run with you if they do lock onto any phone calls. Those things….if they weren't trying to kill me I'd say they were a marvel of technology." Of course he'd seen power suits before, but none of them could read and react to every situation.
He chuckled. "Mr., Dr., doesn't really matter. To you, I'm just James," he answered. "I suppose that it should be Ms. Caito that I call you though. Your father wouldn't approve otherwise." He took another swig from the apple juice and moved over on the couch so that she could sit if she wanted to. "One thing is for certain though, he won't be assured of anything until you're with him again."

Rosalia wasn’t that worried about the beverage selection, so she only shrugged in response to his apology. It wasn’t really a big deal. Besides, this was a hideout in the middle of nowhere. Did he think she was expecting strawberries and champagne?
“That hardly seems fair. I can call you whatever you want, but you have to call me Ms. Caito?” Rosalia frowned slightly. Even now when they were alone together, who her father was remained fresh in James’ mind. It was so difficult for her to find people who saw her for who she really was instead of just seeing her father. Everyone either admired or feared him. Or some combination of the two. It seemed that the scientist was no exception. She sighed. “I get it…” Instead of sitting next to him on the couch, she moved back to the window. To look out, but also to let her mind wander a bit.
She cracked open the bottle of water and took a small sip. “He’ll be worried until we call him. Then I’m sure he’ll be fine.” Her father didn’t worry about anything for too long. It was true that he was very protective of her, though, so she knew that he would be concerned when he tried to get ahold of her or the men assigned to guard her and no one answered their phones. Well, maybe one of the men would answer. She certainly hoped Dominic and Reggie were okay. Having them following her around constantly really cramped her style, but those were daddy’s rules so she knew there was no wiggle room.

James smiled at her comment about what to call her, then nodded in agreement. "You're right, that really isn't fair. I know it can't be easy for you." The scientist had never wanted the life of luxury, all he cared about was whether he was working and whether he was comfortable. Luxurious lifestyles didn't appeal to him much, but he didn't hold anything against those who had it. And he knew all too well how Mr. Caito was. Despite his powers, James did fear the man. And with good reason. He still remembered the man ordering another man's tongue ripped out because of a lewd comment made about Rosalia's breasts. James wasn't sure if she knew about it or not.
"Your father's a very influential and powerful man. I don't know how you've dealt with living with that being held over your head. I can't imagine the pressure. I wish I could say that I understand, but the fact is I don't." And to be totally honest he didn't want to say he could understand. She was not exactly in an enviable position. Sure the money had to be nice, but the pressure had to really build to a head sometimes. How did she ever just cut loose?
He nodded when she mentioned he'd be fine after they called. And Mr. Caito seemed to trust James well enough. Though he'd hate to see the way the scientist was looking at his daughter right now. Leaning against the window, she was damn sexy. He shifted his weight and moved his feet from the couch. "You should rest a bit," he said after patting the couch cushion beside him. He took another sip from his drink. "I'm sure your bodyguards are okay. They aren't super-powered are they?" he asked, sure that they weren't. Neither of them showed any signs of being so. He offered a casual smile to try to comfort her.
