All organizations in the world had their weaknesses. The Eagle’s Nest was no exception. Taylor just needed to find it, and this was the perfect opportunity for her to do so. A job opening. Nathan Hale was a brilliant strategist, but even he needed some help keeping track of so many powered individuals, especially with those Augury Soldiers throwing everything into chaos for a while. Those things had caused quite a stir for her group as well, though it had been taken care of fairly quickly. Now there was just the aftermath, the lawsuits, the rebuilding. No wonder Hale needed an assistant. And she was lucky enough to have gotten an interview.
Or, at least, ‘Lydia Hansen’ had gotten the interview. It was the name she’d gone by for a couple of years now, long enough for her to establish herself within the community. It was a long-term, deep cover mission. It was impossible to tell how long it might take to gain Hale’s trust, which would then gain her access to the truly juicy information about the Eagle’s Nest. Although at this point even knowing WHERE the secret headquarters was would be a useful piece of knowledge. She would learn all she could, and get out once her intel was no longer needed. Or if she was afraid her cover had been blown.
First things first… she had to actually get the damned job. She didn’t think it would be much of a problem. Her expertise was reading people, especially men, and telling them what they wanted to hear. It really depended on what he was looking for, though. In many ways, things like this were always a little out of her control. She’d done her best to tailor her resume to what she thought the organization was looking for, what they needed. But there was always the chance that they would be looking for someone who appeared to be a little more seasoned, with more relevant experience. Then she would have to start all over again from scratch, though there was always Plan B as well. She could always resort to that if she felt like the interview wasn’t going well.
These were the things running through her mind as she sat in the waiting room of an unassuming office building. She assumed this was not the actual headquarters, but this was where her interview would be taking place. Most likely only the person that actually got the job would get to see the secret base. The blonde woman smiled to herself as she readjusted the navy blue suit jacket she wore. She couldn’t wait to see the legendary place for herself.

The agent following Nathan handed the director a clipboard. Nathan looked it over as he was walking down the hallway of the not so secret building that Eagle's Nest owned and used as a recruitment facility. He stopped momentarily and looked at the agent following. "Is this accurate?" he asked sharply, a concerned look on his face. The agent just nodded. Nathan breathed a heavy sigh. "Double our presence there. Find out what the hell that thing is and get back to me. Bring in one of our alien contacts if you have to. Just....make sure it's one I've signed off on. I don't want anyone that we can't trust anywhere near this thing." The agent nodded, took the clipboard back when it was handed to him, and took off. Another agent, a secretary of sorts, came up to let Nathan know that his appointment was here. He told her to bring the young lady into his office and he'd be there shortly. There was one more thing that needed his attention quickly before the interview.
Down one level, one of the scientists had sent him a message saying that one of the power control devices could be made more effective. He made his way down there, letting him know that he only had a few moments to spare. The scientist quickly explained the specifications and told Nathan what he'd need. "I'll set up the requisition for you. This could be huge. See if you can find some way to lessen the pain of the surgery to bind the device to the metahuman," he said. The scientist then explained that this new device could even circumvent the surgical procedure. "Even better. You'll have what you need," he answered.
Busy, busy, busy. Such was the life of the director of the biggest organization in the world. Alien invasions, robot attacks, superhuman superbrawls, he dealt with them all. He made his way back up to the right level and to the office. The secretary let him know that the recruit was in his office waiting. He nodded, picking up the file on her. It wasn't a thick file. That wasn't necessarily a red flag, but it was a cautionary point. He walked into the office, looking over the file and around his desk. He'd done this so many times that there was no need for him to even look where he was going. "Thank you for coming, Ms. Hansen. I must say, your file, though not exactly extensive, is quite impressive. I can't say that I've got an agent with your particular skill set." It was only then that he finally looked up. "So how about you tell me about yourself. Something that's not in your file." He didn't need her to go into crazy detail, but just enough to tell him something that he hadn't read. Trust would be rewarded with trust.

Taylor was shown into an office and told that her interview would begin shortly. She wondered briefly who it was that would be conducting her interview. It probably depended on the secrecy of the information she would be dealing with. It could just be some random office manager, but of course she was hoping to meet the man himself. Ingratiating herself with Nathan Hale would only make it that much easier to fulfill her mission. But that might be expecting too much. After all, he was the director. It was very easy to think that he had someone else conduct these kinds of interviews for him. Or maybe he was too much of a control freak to let anyone else handle the new recruits, thinking that only he would be able to spot an enemy trying to work their way up the ranks. Either way, it would tell her a lot about him and the way this organization was run, and information was power.
She waited quietly, patiently, until finally she heard the door open behind her. Taylor turned to look and was pleasantly surprised by who she found walking into the room. The director himself. She knew him only by a few photographs, and he certainly did not disappoint in person. “Thank you for seeing me, Mr. Hale. I know you’re a very busy man,” she responded with a pleasant smile. An expression that faded only slightly as he asked her to tell her something that he didn’t already know about herself. Every slight change in facial expression was calculated as she contemplated her response. “Well, that’s pretty difficult to do considering how detailed your background checks are. You could very well have most of my life in that folder.” That would be a little sad, considering how small the file was, but not all that surprising considering the fact that her cover alias was just barely beginning her career and hadn’t spent much time doing anything that wasn’t training. Enough like her that she could speak with great detail about it without having to lie too much. Even the best liar could get caught if they couldn’t remember every single detail. There would be a slip up somewhere, and then the whole scenario could come unraveled.
There were many possible ways to answer this question. She could make up something, but he was observant enough that he might be able to tell if she was lying. At least at first, when his guard was up and he was on red alert. Better to tell him something that was at least mostly true. “I’m naturally left-handed. My mother was one of those superstitious people who worried I was going to become a criminal or something, so she made me do everything with my right hand. So now I’m ambidextrous, but tend to do everything right-handed out of habit.” It was a mostly true story, if you took out the part about her mother. She’d never known the woman who’d given birth to her. No, the one who’d made her switch dominant hands was the matron of the training house, who was convinced she would grow up to be a traitor to the cause if allowed to continue using her left.

If Nathan knew one thing, it was liars. Lydia didn't strike him as that type when he first saw her. But he wasn't foolish enough to not attribute at least part of that to her pleasant appearance. Most people were liars deep down, and he'd venture to say that at least ninety nine percent of beautiful women were. The problem there was that to be a spy, lying was pretty much a prerequisite. He gave a small, one corner of his mouth smile when she said he likely had almost her whole life in the folder. He knew that wasn't the case, as the folder was too thin. This was very likely some fabricated, and honestly not very well fabricated, credentials. "Well, Ms. Hansen, we all have our secrets, don't we?" he said with a knowing look. Truly, he didn't really care that she was lying. And she'd actually almost had him, except that her answer was a bit too deflecting. One of the cardinal rules of lying was to not deflect questions. Still, it didn't matter. He had a secret organization and it took liars to keep the organization covert.
"I've heard similar stories before," Nathan said softly, in an even tone so as to assure her she wouldn't be apprehended or taken into custody. He had heard of a certain training organization that did such a thing as well. It was long defunct now though, so there was no way that Lydia could be a part of that. "Part of what we do here is lie. If nothing else," he said as he dropped her open file onto the table, the contents spilling out for her to see. "What this file does is show me that you are capable of just that. We need that. Our agents are spread very thin right now, so recruiting is at a high. I've even had to throw a few trainees into the field early to cover all our bases." He leaned back in the chair. "This world is a big place, and organizations like mine are privy to make sure that this world is protected. That said, we need individuals that are willing to do whatever it takes to do just that. Keeping secrets, silencing threats, spying and other such operations. My question to you is this: Do you believe yourself to be ready to do that?" he said with a straight face. Nathan was a hard man to read. Even telepaths had trouble with him.
He had a few facts that he would test her with after her answer. Things that only someone he trusted implicitly would be informed of. Things such as the location of the Freedom Fighters' secret hideaway and the reason they live in secret. No, he wouldn't necessarily reveal those things to her, but he had a test or two in mind for her on such topics. More to the point, he wanted to gauge her knowledge on such things, to see if she knew something that maybe he didn't even know. That was doubtful, because his eyes and ears were everywhere, but doubtful didn't mean impossible.

As she expected, he read right through the facade she’d put on. Good. Let him think that he was seeing what she was hiding. Little did he know just how deep the lies went with the woman that he knew as Lydia. Taylor barely even knew who she really was anymore. It was a dangerous line she was walking, but the fact that she walked that tightrope better than anyone else was the exact reason she’d been sent on this mission. If anyone could earn this man’s trust and remain loyal to the organization, it was Taylor. “Indeed we do, Mr. Hale,” was her response, unfazed by his knowing look. Her blue eyes studied every curve of his face, searching for the meaning behind every tick and gesture. He was good, very good. And he knew it. This was going to be a fun nut to crack. Taylor always had loved a challenge.
Listening to his little speech, Taylor leaned back in her chair and waited patiently. A little smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. “Am I ready? Of course. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t know I was. Test me if you want, but I’m not the kind of person who goes around half-assing things so I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.” Perhaps she was taking a risk by swearing in front of him, but it was one that might very well pay off in her favor in terms of getting on this man’s good side. She leaned forward in her chair, locking eyes with him. “People never suspect someone who looks like me. I can get in anywhere, get any kind of intel I need and I’m smart enough to find a way to beat anyone that I need to. But I could do all that on my own. And honestly, after hearing all that, I’m wondering what it is that you can offer me if you’re really spread that thin.” Another calculated risk, but she had to show him that she was capable and driven. That she didn’t need him, but the potential was there for her to be an incredible asset to his team. Besides, seeming too eager was more likely to be suspicious.
He’d already admitted that the Eagle’s Nest needed someone like her. Good, that was lucky timing on her part that she honestly hadn’t expected from him. That gave her a little more leverage. “I believe in the mission of this organization of yours, Mr. Hale. So the decision is entirely yours. You either want me or you don’t. You’ll either trust me or you won’t. I’ll be taking out the bad guys either way.” If she failed in this first attempt, there were other ways to gain his trust by working outside the organization and pulling his attention. That would take more time, and the leaders of her organization were not always patient people. For a big job like this, though, they were prepared to wait months if necessary.

Nathan sat and watched, studying every tick, every tone change, every glint from "Lydia's" eyes. She brought up good points, but practiced points. There was nothing that she was saying that he hadn't heard before. Except when she said that no one would suspect someone who looked like her. That struck a chord. Not that he thought she was overconfident or anything like that. She was a beautiful woman, but part of that meant that she would draw attention, even if no one would suspect her of anything. Still, she was partially right. He leaned back in his chair until she was finished speaking, listening intently while he studied her. The eye contact was good, and honestly, it took almost all of his professionalism to not look a little lower while looking her in the eye. He tilted his head and gave a slight smirk when she said she didn't do anything half assed. The fact that she was willing to be so bold as to curse in an interview actually impressed him. Not many people had the stones to do that. But she did, and he liked that.
He opened his mouth to say something, but the man he'd been talking to as they came into the room stuck his head back in the door. "Director, I hate to interrupt but we, uhm, have a slight issue," he said. Nathan nodded his approval for the man to tell him. If "Lydia" was really on the up and up, and if he was going to bring her in, it couldn't hurt for her to hear the details of what they were talking about. It wasn't really that much of a secret anyway that he couldn't let someone in. "Sir, we found the device you had us looking for. It's in a small bunker on the south side of Sapphire City. How would you like me to proceed?"
"Get a team ready to go retrieve it. But don't launch until I give the go," he answered. The man nodded and headed out the door. His voice could faintly be heard over the radio, giving the order he'd been given. "Well, it looks like we have quite the opportunity here to test you. I believe you when you say that you won't fail, so I'm going to send you with the team. So the details. Usually, I go with a need to know basis, but if you're going to be one of my trusted, then I'm gonna tell you everything." He paused for a moment and pulled out his phone. He flipped through a few pictures until he came to the picture of the device. He spun the phone around and set it on the desk long enough for her to get a good look at it. "We've been looking for a device that Sharpe said he'd built as a failsafe to stop his Augury Soldiers. I was skeptical at first, since it seemed like everything about those things had failed, but we have to explore our every option. Now I know you're more of a spy type and not a retrieval expert, but working for Eagle's Nest you're going to need to wear a lot of hats."
He pulled two devices from his desk. One was a satellite GPS, and the other a digital blueprint of the bunker and the surrounding area. "You'll need these as part of the team. The team will be your back up. I'm not looking for you to go in guns blazing, unless that's just what you want to do. I'd prefer to see your spy skills at work. The place is guarded though, and I want to see you slip in and get the device. You up to the challenge?"

Was that a twitch of a smirk she saw? It definitely was. Good. He might not trust her fully yet. Maybe he wouldn’t ever. Someone like him most likely had his doubts about almost everyone in his organization. As long as they weren’t all directed at her specifically, she figured she would be okay. And luckily her mission was long term. She could really take her time to work her way into the heart of the organization. Long missions in this kind of deep cover could be tricky. Spending so much time around people that you were lying to constantly only meant that it was that much more likely the lies would be uncovered. Or, worse, that you would get attached to something in that world and end up switching sides. Taylor didn’t need to worry about either of those things happening. She was the best at what she did. That was why she’d been sent here, to deal with this man. He was the best at what he did too, so this would undoubtedly be quite the face off. The most difficult mission she’d ever faced. And Taylor couldn’t wait to see how it was going to unfold.
This would be her first real test. She hadn’t exactly dressed for going on a mission. This was just supposed to be an interview. But she wasn’t about to complain. She leaned forward to look at the photographs Nathan brought up on his phone. So she was supposed to retrieve some kind of device that could be used against those giant robots. Interesting. They’d given everyone quite a fright recently, if memory served her correctly. It was easy to see how such a thing would be useful, if it indeed existed. And if it worked, of course. She took the other two items he sent her way, taking a brief look at the blueprints. They would get a more thorough viewing while en route to the bunker.
“You won’t regret this decision,” she promised with a smile. That was one thing she was absolutely telling him the truth on. ‘Lydia Hansen’ would be one of Mr. Hale’s best operatives. Right up until the moment that she had what she needed. Then she would probably just disappear in the night, with nothing left but a memory. That was likely to be a while from now, though, so she’d better get started on making herself at home. “So… when do I get to meet my team?” she asked, remembering that he’d told the man who came into the room earlier to assemble a team and hold. It was too bad that Nathan himself wouldn’t be coming along, but she could of course understand. The head of the Eagle’s Nest had more important things to do than this. Hell, she was still surprised that he’d conducted this interview personally.

This interview itself had the feel of a chess match. Nathan liked that. Every move checked by another move, and so far it seemed there was a bit of a stalemate. 'Lydia', if that was her true name, was highly intelligent, beautiful, devious, charming, and above all, insightful. She read him as well as anyone had ever read him. That impressed the director of Eagle's Nest. Even his highest valued agents had trouble seeing when Nathan wasn't being completely up front with them. Certainly the woman in front of him had to know that something was afoot. Her posture told him that, the way she leaned forward and quickly looked over the pictures and blueprints. Her words, 'you won't regret this decision', said it all. He knew he wouldn't regret it, not immediately anyway. She had the feel of someone who would eventually betray him. But maybe, just maybe, if he played his cards right, he could change that. How many times had he convinced Ian to postpone retirement? Nathan had lost count.
"Your team. You'll meet them right now," he answered as he stood up. He motioned for her to follow him. Once they'd made their way to the small hangar, he pointed to a small door. "That's a changing room. I'm sure you'll find it a little difficult to move about in your current attire. You'll find a uniform in there. Don't worry about fit, the fibers in the material adjust to the wearer's form. You'll get a perfect fit. You can put your other items in one of those lockers," he said, pointing to a wall of lockers behind him. This building had once been a school. But that was before the invasion. Afterwards, it had been deemed unsafe. Eagle' Nest bought the building and restructured it. "After you've changed, you'll meet your team on the jet."
He gave her time to change, and during that time he spoke to the team. He kept his tone hushed, he didn't need 'Lydia' hearing this part. "I need you guys to really sell this. That's why I chose you. This is just an exercise to test Ms. Hansen's skill. There isn't any real danger to any of you or to her. Find the device and get it back here. But you're under her command." After saying that and getting the confirmation from them that they understood, he waited for Lydia to get back to the jet. There, he nodded and introduced the team. There were five men. "Lydia, this is your team." He held out his hand to each in turn to point out which was which. "Carl Blanks, Neil Grant, Robert Young, Alvin Trenton, and Paul Morris. Guys, this is your captain, Lydia Hansen. You'll give her the same respect that you give me. Clear?" A resounding, "Clear!" came from the men, and Nathan nodded. "It's all yours, Ms. Hansen." He handed her all the details that she'd need in a small packet. He'd taken special care to, even though it was really just a training and observation exercise, ensure that the packet looked flawlessly official and valid. "Anything you need will be provided. Just say the word." He walked down the ramp and stood aside as it lifted back up. Now was the time to see exactly what 'Lydia' was made of.

Changing into the recommended outfit did not take particularly long. Charm was used to quick changes. They were often a necessity in her line of work, especially given the aspects she specialized in. Luckily there was no rush at this particular moment, so she took a little extra time to start planning out scenarios in her mind. After all, if she didn’t impress the director, she could not get the information that she needed and accomplish her long term goal. When she pulled this off, she would be quite the talk of the town back home. After all, she would have succeeded where no one else had. She was looking forward to that moment. First things first, she had to pass this test. And she knew that was exactly what this was, no matter how it may have been presented. She seriously doubted that this mission was much of anything beyond that.
Finally, she was brought and introduced to the team. Five men. Charm sized them up in an instant, the same instant in which she memorized their names. All of them found her attractive, but only two were willing to give her a more thorough glance. The other three must be married, or in serious relationships of some kind. Not necessarily useful information in this test mission, but that didn’t mean it wouldn’t come in handy at this point. They were all wearing gloves as part of their uniform as well, so she was unable to confirm her hypothesis without taking a much more pointed look. Oh well. She was amused by the fact that he’d referred to her as a captain. He must really be searching for some kind of leader at this level for the technical interview to be her leading this kind of mission. The stories that she’d heard before starting this job had always involved starting from the bottom. This mission made it seem more like she would be starting in the middle, which was just fine by her. That meant she would be on a fast track to get to the top, to get Nathan Hale’s trust and be let into the inner circle.
She took the packet from the director after shaking hands with each of the men in turn. “Thank you, Director Hale,” she said with a smile when he said they were all hers. She opened the packet to take another brief look at the blueprints of the building. “Alright, Trenton, you’re the sharpshooter right?” After seeing the man’s slightly surprised expression that she’d been able to tell so much after a moment’s meeting, he nodded slowly. “Good. I want you on the long range rifle. Grant and Young, I can tell you’re a hand to hand combat specialist, so you’re going in with me. The rest of you will provide cover and aid in the extraction once we’ve got what we came for. ” A plan was already starting to form in her head. It should be a pretty simple mission, if the information she was being given was accurate. “Everyone pick up whatever long or mid-range weapons you’re most comfortable with. I want everything set to stun for this op. It should be a quick in and out, so I don’t want any casualties unless the shit hits the fan. And we’re going to need two sets of gliders. Alright, let’s load up!” The men scurried off to get their supplies. Meanwhile, Charm took the opportunity to go over the packet she’d been given. Any small detail might be important, and provide a hint that would better ensure the success of the mission.

Nathan watched as the woman sized up the men. He was extremely impressed with how accurate she was. Trenton was a damned good sharpshooter, and Grant and Young were hand to hand experts, with Young being one of the best Hale had ever seen. The only thing she wouldn't be able to pick up on at first glance was the fact that Morris was homosexual. The soldier played it off really well though. No one would be able to tell at first meeting. That, and he was extremely quiet. Morris didn't say a whole lot. Then came the plan, and again, Hale was extremely impressed with her gumption to just take charge the way she did. Not only that, but at how quickly the men were to agree to her orders. Yes, they'd been told to follow her orders by the director, but the quickness that they agreed with was what really hit him. The woman had a hell of a lot of charisma. Never mind that she was absolutely gorgeous.
Nathan was off the jet and heard her say she needed two gliders. He'd make sure that she had them. He made a quick command into his comm and the gliders would be waiting for them. "Good luck," he shouted as the jet powered up and began to lift off. "Captain," Blank called to her. "The jet will get us there in minutes. We're all set and at your command." Given the time that she had already gone over the paperwork, she'd probably have a clear idea of the place's layout by now. Blank pulled up the blueprints on the on board computer. "There's two entrances. The most direct route looks to be the front door." Blank always was the leader type, and very tactically and strategically sound.
It wasn't but a few minutes before they got to the place. The jet landed, with the pilot calling back that they were safely on the ground. "Ready when you are captain," Grant said. As soon as the doors opened, Trenton was out and making his way to find a good vantage point. As soon as he was there he called out on the comm to Lydia, "I'm in position."

“Front door is also the most heavily guarded. I think we’ll try knocking on Door Number Three.” Charm smirked and pointed to a spot on the holographic projector. “There’s a tunnel there. My guess is it leads to a hatch. That’s our best way in. Trenton will be our eyes. If for some reason we can’t get back to the hatch once we have what we came for, I’ll be counting on him, Blanks, and Morris to clear the front entrance for the extraction. Tranqs and stuns only unless the shit really hits the fan.” Hopefully it wouldn’t. This was, after all, supposed to be a test for her. She was positive of it. The timing was way too convenient for this intel to have just happened to arrive while she was in the middle of her interview.
“Everyone clear?” Charm asked, receiving a chorus of nods in return. It didn’t seem like there were any questions either. Good. That meant things could move along. That meant they needed to prep the gliders. While the plane was still in the air, Charm rode down in the direction of the hatch with Grant and Young on the gliders.
By the time Trenton told her that he was in position, she’d located the hatch. A quick scan of the area let her know that it was guarded, even though there were no actual human guards in sight. Some kind of security system, with laser movement sensors. Tricky little devils, but this system should be pretty easy to get around. She would just need a moment or two to come up with a plan. She began to look through her utility toolbelt to see if there was anything in there that might help with the situation. She’d looked over all her equipment briefly before they left, but this whole operation was so rushed together that she hadn’t had time to come up with a plan for every eventuality. Charm was going to have to think on her feet.

Nathan had seen all he needed to see. Watching from his private vid station in his office back at the actual base, he made a quick call to the pilot of the jet the team had been sent on. "Yes, sir," the pilot said quickly before hanging up, then hit a single button at the side of his pit. He chuckled a bit to himself, but the rest of the team was respectful enough of the woman to stifle the chuckles. As Lydia was standing at the end of the open door, she would see the landscape below her evaporate away. It was all computer generated.
Then she would hear Nathan's voice over the loudspeaker in the jet. "Well done, Ms. Hansen. I've seen what I needed to see. You have the capability of taking over a situation in dire circumstances. The jet will bring you back to base. I'll meet you there. Welcome to Eagle's Nest."
The door of the jet would close, and the men looked at her, all with welcoming looks. "You're gonna be one hell of a leader," Blanks said with a smile. "Should be about fifteen minutes until we get to base."
And that's all it took. When the jet landed, Nathan was standing out on the landing platform. Lydia would likely be a bit upset about the way it happened, but he was sure that she would understand the caution that he exercised always. He was the head of a covert organization after all. There was no such thing as too careful. When the jet landed, she would see the exterior of the base. It was the real thing. She was at the Nest. "Welcome to the team," Nathan greeted her as she'd exit the jet.

All along she’d known it was a test. The part that came as a surprise to Charm was the fact it had all been digitally created. Even the scenery. She’d underestimated Nathan Hale’s crafty nature. It wouldn’t happen again. It gave her an even greater respect for him, though. She could see why he was the head of a major intelligence agency at such a young age. There had to be a chink in that armor, though. She would find it, and use it to her advantage.
In the meantime, ‘Lydia’ made friends with the team. “I think you guys all missed your calling in show business,” she joked, which earned her a hearty laugh from the men in the plane. By the time they reached the Eagle’s Nest, they trusted her. That was important. After all, it wasn’t just Nathan that she needed to win over. He would be much less likely to trust her if she didn’t integrate herself into the organization. She had to become a member of the team. It was going to be her greatest challenge yet, but if she could pull this off… the rewards would be staggering.
She exited the plane last cracking some silly joke to the pilot. The director had said he would meet her at the base, but she was still a little surprised to see him waiting there for her. “You got me pretty good there,” she admitted with a smile of admiration. She’d guessed most of the surprise, but the fact that he’d been able to fool her at all was impressive. Made it so much harder for her to resist flirting with him, too. If he was the kind of man who could be easily seduced, he would have been taken down long ago. She liked that about him too. “Thank you, Director Hale.” She extended her hand out for him to shake when he congratulated her. “So since the team all went off ahead, does that mean you’ll be giving me a tour of the place personally?” She assumed there were security measures and she would have to get put into the system before she could wander around on her own. Besides, there were probably all sorts of off-limits places she shouldn’t trespass in. For a while, anyway.

She passed the test. Somehow Nathan knew that it would happen that way, but he had to be sure. There was no getting around that. He wasn't the type of leader who just trusted blindly. He had just met her person to person earlier in the day, after all. There was no pushing past that, until the test was completed. Flying colors, so to speak.
Nathan met her with a smile as the plane landed. The men had taken a shine to her already, and not just physically. Nathan did notice a few glances from a couple of them at her ample assets when she wasn't looking. She probably expected such looks though. A woman that beautiful would, of course, be used to it. As long as it didn't bring her any discomfort…..
"It wasn't about getting you," Nathan replied with a slight chuckle. He took her hand, shaking firmly and turned, motioning for her to follow. Yes, indeed she was going to get the complete tour from him. Turning into a small alcove, there were three doors. Entering the first, they went into a long hallway. On either side of the hallway there were rooms with sliding doors. "These are our R&D labs," he stated as they'd both hear a loud "Fuck!" from the left side. "I said turn DOWN the torque, Robbie. Turn DOWN the torque!" The young scientist turned a knob in the opposite direction, catching the stern glare from the director at the last second. He lowered his head, knowing he'd screwed up and possibly put his team in danger. Nathan would have a talk with him later. Mistakes happen, the director knew that. There was probably something on Robbie's mind, as he was the emotional type.
"Down here is where they designed that suit you're wearing," Nathan said as he pointed to another room. A woman was sitting at a desk by a sewing machine and there was a small jar of some sort of particles beside her. "They are magic based, infused into the fabric to form fit the suits that Claire sews."
"This way," he said as he moved towards the door at the end of the hallway. "Don't hesitate to ask questions."

Excellent. Charm couldn’t imagine this going any better than it already was. Obviously she’d passed the test, and now she was going to get a tour from the head of the agency himself. Of course she wasn’t expecting him to fully trust her right away. No, this was a long-term assignment. Could take months, or maybe even longer. It was expected to be one of the most difficult ones she’d ever faced, but she had to believe that she was ready for it. They wouldn’t have sent her if they didn’t feel like she could complete the objective.
For now, the goal was to spend as much time around this man as possible. Get to know him and the people who were closest to him. Build their trust. And, of course, show no indication of what her real interest was in working for this agency. Charm let Nathan Hale lead her down the hallway to the R&D labs. She took a look around with genuine interest. This would not be where she would get the information she needed, but there were undoubtedly gadgets or potential allies that she could use to get what she needed. Whatever it was that Robbie was working on drew her special attention, since obviously something about what was happening was wrong enough to draw the Director’s ire.
“The younger ones sometimes get themselves into trouble, but their creativity can’t be matched,” she commented thoughtfully. Many times it was making mistakes that led to some of the biggest scientific breakthroughs. So while it was probably not good that this Robbie had made a mistake of that kind, she hoped that whoever was in charge of discipline wouldn’t be too hard on him. Creativity was too easily drowned out in this world. “Am I allowed to know what it is that they’re working on, or is that above my pay grade?” she asked with just a hint of a teasing tone. It would be important for her to know where her boundaries were, so she would have an idea of how far she would have left to go.
The next room drew her interest as well. “Fascinating…” she looked at him. “I don’t have much experience working with magical objects. Do you have many of them here?” That kind of thing was rare, especially since magic-users themselves were uncommon. At least as far as Charm knew.
