“Hey, most people I know wouldn’t even believe me if I told them I met you, much less that you admitted someone else on your team is stronger.” Hmm… maybe that needed to be rephrased. “I mean, I guess Monster is physically stronger, but not necessarily in an overall fighting sense.” He really seemed to be pushing the point that she had contributed as much as he had in that fight, which she did appreciate. It wasn’t often that an amateur hero like herself got such high praise from a professional. One of the most well-known professionals, in fact. She’d gotten damn lucky it was Elite that showed up to help her out. “Thanks. We’ve all gotta do what we can, right?”
Hearing him talk about life on the Thermopylae was fascinating. She couldn’t imagine what that would be like. “Wow so then the whole team must be pretty close.” It must be difficult for them to have social lives outside of each other if they spent the majority of their time either saving lives or on a floating base. That did make her wonder briefly about whether or not Elite and Glory had ever… gotten together. Very little was known about the team’s personal lives, but those two would definitely make an attractive couple so even she had heard the rumors.
She giggled a little at his rather romanticized idea of what working for yourself was like. “Well, you’re partially right. About the exhausting and lot of hours part of it. And yeah, I guess it is nice to not have to answer to anyone but myself if a mistake is made. But working on my own also means no days off or else the shop stays closed, so I don’t really get to make my own hours if I want to be able to pay the bills.” That was mostly why she was so glad he was going to help her with the insurance company to get her shop rebuilt. She had some savings that would help tide her over while construction was underway, but the longer the shop was closed, the more dire her situation would be. “I guess I’ll have a lot of free time until the shop is built, though. Maybe I should get a hobby, or a day job.” She laughed a little at her own joke.

"Well yeah as far as just physical strength, there really isn't anyone I can think of who's stronger," Eddie said, but then stopped for a moment. He held up his index finger and nodded. "Except the alien that invaded. The Omega. It was the only thing, person, whatever, that was physically stronger, that I'm aware of." Thinking back, he couldn't even imagine being that strong, that powerful. To this day he still wasn't sure how they defeated the invader. Back to the point at hand, though, it was no small thing her protecting the innocent civilians like she had. It would have been impossible for him to do the same and defeat the soldier as well. He was thankful that she'd been there, and at the same time sorrowful that her shop had been destroyed. "Yeah, that's the mantra," he answered. "A lot of powered individuals live life the way you do though. I'm just glad to have finally met one," he said with a smile.
"Pretty close? Yes and no." He thought about that for a moment as well. The team was all familiar with each other on the level of friendship, but their real bond came while they were out on missions. "We know each other well enough, but the thing is that we work as a team better than any out there." Well, that sounded arrogant. That wasn't his intention. "Of course, we've had plenty of practice to make that teamwork even better. You'd think a group of muscleheads like us wouldn't have that, being as most of us have the same power set that I have." Even with that said, they knew how to work together, who was stronger in certain situations, who would work better in a tactical or strategic spot. They were damn good, the best. And that showed every mission.
He smiled all the way through her answers on working for yourself, including the little joke about getting a hobby or a day job. He shook his head just a bit. "You could always come take a visit on the Thermopylae. We've got plenty of room up there, you could meet the team. You could get first hand knowledge of what it's like to live on a floating boat." It was an idea, and whether or not she'd bite only she knew. "I don't think it will take that long to get your shop fixed up."

So he was glad to have met her. The feeling was mutual, and not just because he was a serious contender for sexiest man on the planet. Despite the fame, he seemed to be a genuine, down-to-earth kind of guy behind the scenes. When he wasn’t having to step up and pull his team into shape, of course. Obviously he was good at that too when he needed to be. Was there anything this guy couldn’t do? It certainly didn’t seem like it. Then again, she’d only actually known him for a couple of hours. Gotta keep some perspective before she put the guy on a pedestal.
The way he talked about the team definitely made it seem like there wasn’t anything between him and Glory. Guess those rumors were wrong. It seemed a little odd though. From what she’d heard, people who were thrown together as often as this team was, who’d put their lives in each others’ hands, often ended up incredibly close. In cases where there was sexual attraction… well… it was common for that to be explored. She knew of several people on the police force who’d cheated on their spouses, or started regular relationships, with their partners. Maybe it wasn’t as common as her acquaintances made it seem, but it did make sense. The kind of trust you would have to have with someone to put your life in their hands was a rare thing to have. She could easily see how that kind of thing happened. Maybe this team didn’t spend as much time hanging out outside of missions, or something. Or maybe it was different because this was a whole team, rather than just a pair. Erin wasn’t sure, and it was probably a little weird that she found herself a little relieved that the leader of the Spartans seemed to be unattached.
“If your whole team are a bunch of muscleheads with similar powers, wouldn’t that make me sort of the odd man out if I ever joined?” she asked him with a smile, referring to his earlier statement about how she should think about going pro. The invitation to go up to their headquarters, though… that wasn’t a bad idea. She was going to have some time off before her shop was rebuilt anyway, right? And just because she visited didn’t mean she would have to join up with the agency or anything. “That would actually be pretty cool. Are you sure you don’t need to get permission or something for that? I mean, I’m sure not just anybody gets to see the inside of that place.”

It was true that there were rumors about that he had been with Glory, but in all honesty, Eddie wouldn't even consider it. She was too much of a bitch for his liking, way too confident. No, not confident, arrogant. No. There was no way. An attraction, sure. Glory was insanely gorgeous, but that better than everyone personality just didn't do it for him. Now Conflict and her had a tryst or two, that he knew of, but that was another story. Eddie took another sip from his coffee and set the cup down, nearly finished with it. It was better than he'd remembered.
Maybe, if she came with him, she'd get to meet the members of his team. If that were to happen then she'd figure out easily enough just how hard Eddie's job was. Keeping that group together was enough to make a preacher cuss. There were many times when Eddie had lost it, but he never let the team see that. That was the key. He kept it together while they were around him, and let out his frustrations later, on his alone time. Usually he'd just go for a fly around the city, or he'd hit the heavy bags on the Thermopylae. Whatever he did, he'd keep to himself. There was a lot of weight on the shoulders of the team's leader. Luckily, he could bear that weight easily enough. Being able to lift an insane amount of weight didn't help that, being a more figurative thing, of course. Eddie was just as mentally tough as he was physically.
"Technically," he said with a small grin. "Magnetism is akin to telekinesis. You're able to move things made of metal, with your mind. Kind of makes you a musclehead too." Eddie shrugged and chuckled. "Not in the sense that myself or Monster are, but still," he shrugged. It wasn't meant as any sort of knock, of course. It was just an observation. "It kind of applies here too." He was glad to hear that she was interested in going to the base. Very glad. "No, no need for permission. It's a recruiting without an actual recruiting. Not saying I wouldn't want you on the team, because I think you'd be a great addition. If you want, we can go whenever you're ready, let you look around, meet people."

Erin laughed. He’d made a valid point, actually. When he brought up that it didn’t make her the same as him or Monster, she shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe I could even lift more than you. Would that make me Queen Musclehead?” Of course lifting with your mind was vastly different from having a supernaturally strong body. And she probably shouldn’t have even brought up that kind of competition as a joke. The truth was that she had no real idea about how much weight she could lift with her mind. She’d never bothered to test it. Her powers could twist metal into incredibly delicate and ornate shapes. Her work provided her plenty of practice with that. But lifting? Never. She’d never had much problem levitating large things if she found the need to do so, or doing things like holding those robots in place, though, so she figured her power was at least decently strong. Regardless of its actual ‘strength’ it was damn useful. She took pride in that.
There he went again with the whole recruiting, not-recruiting thing. It was incredibly flattering that he wanted her on his team, though. That anyone would think she was good enough to become a pro was pretty cool, but this guy was the leader of the best damn hero team there was. If anyone in the world knew what it took, it was him. Could she actually work under him, though? Part of her felt like having such a gorgeous man in charge was just asking for trouble. How would she ever be able to focus on the task at hand? Erin was confident she’d be able to keep it together in a life or death situation, but the chances of her being able to focus on a briefing or something when she was in the same room as easily the most attractive man she’d ever seen were not so good. That was her cautious side. The other half of her wanted to jump at the opportunity to get to know him better.
First things first, the tour. She didn’t have to make any kind of decision now. And who in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to check out the Thermopylae? “Well, my delicious latte has unfortunately reached its end, so I’d be pretty much ready to go whenever. How are we getting up there?” As soon as she asked the question, the obvious answer popped into her mind. “Right, you fly. Stupid question.”

Eddie let out a hearty chuckle when she asked if it would make her queen musclehead. The 'challenge' didn't even bother him. There were plenty out there who could lift more than he could. Monster was one of them, and both Glory and Conflict were close if not right on par. "I don't know about queen musclehead, but I can assure you the team would be quite impressed." As the leader of a team consisting mainly of a rowdy warrior, a gentle bruiser and an ego maniacal bitch, Eddie had gotten very good at meshing personalities together and getting them to think and act like a single unit. That was the strategist/tactician inside of him that was able to do that. It was never easy, but every time he saw the results of the team's work, saving people, all that trouble was worth it. He couldn't help but to see a little bit of that in Erin today. Without even really knowing what she was doing, not fully untrained but obviously not prepared to deal with such a situation, she'd still had the presence of mind to know exactly the right thing to do. "Honestly, the queen part might have something to it too, since I see someone who could be a damned good leader in you."
There was a brief pause as he looked across the table at her. In that moment he studied her face, the gentle slope of her high cheekbones, the strength and fragility of her jawline, the cute little lift of the tip of her nose, and then he took a deep breath. There was no mistaking how beautiful she was, and he wasn't joking at all when he said she was prettier than Glory. One of the things that Eddie really took pride in was his professionalism. In the field, he was all business, same as when he was in a briefing. He ran a tight ship. He had to in order to keep his team's differing personalities in line. He had no doubt that despite the attraction he felt towards Erin, that he could keep it together. But he was getting ahead of himself. She had a life, and a good one. She was happy with her day to day. What more could he really ask for? Then again, it wasn't every day that someone got recruited to join the premiere super hero team.
He laughed when she scolded herself about his flight. "I fly? I didn't know that," he teased. Chances are that she probably could too using the metal in her body. Of course, that was also probably something she just hadn't bothered to experiment with yet. And it would quite possibly take a lot out of her to do so. "Hold on tight," he said as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close to him. "Damn, you smell good," he remarked as he hopped up into the air, a gentle take off, and gained speed just enough to ensure her comfort as they went up, up, and up until they came to a stop. "Elite, calling in. Entry code alpha, beta, kappa, gamma, alpha," he called out to seemingly nothing. That's when a small port opened over head, and he flew up into it. "The tour's about to begin," he said with a smile.

“Oh, I don’t know about that now…” Erin didn’t see herself as much of a leader. She had a hard time following at times, which was part of the reason she’d gone into business for herself. That didn’t mean she would make a good leader, or even a good boss. There was a reason her shop didn’t have any employees besides herself, and it wasn’t because she didn’t sell enough product. It was something she’d been thinking about though, as long as she could find someone trustworthy who would require minimal supervision. That was the real trick. She loved what she did, and making her art, but it would be nice to get some time off every now and then. Having to worry both about the art and the business side of things by herself was rewarding, but exhausting.
His comment about her smelling good made her raise her eyebrows. “I’m surprised I don’t smell like gasoline and gunpowder,” she commented as she wrapped her arms around his neck for additional stability during the flight. Maybe he was used to those kinds of smells considering his chosen line of work. It wasn’t any more surprising than Erin’s own realization that Eddie smelled damn good too. Not like he wore any particular kind of cologne or anything. Just… smelled good. Comforting somehow. It was weird, but she figured it had to be pheromones or something she was reacting to. There had to be at least one thing about this guy that didn’t attract her. That wasn’t too much to ask, was it? One thing? She was going to be in serious trouble if she couldn't find something.
She’d thought she had a pretty good grip on Eddie, but as soon as their feet left the earth she held on just a little bit tighter. He wouldn’t drop her, she knew. That grip around her waist would be more than enough to keep her up. But still, the sudden weightlessness was surprising. Exhilarating and a little frightening, if she was being totally honest. The only other times in her life that she’d flown were all in jets. It seemed like he was more or less going straight upward into nothing, but then a small opening appeared seemingly out of thin air. “Whoa…” Then they were inside. She smiled up at him. “You didn’t tell me it was an invisible floating boat. How cool!”

It wasn't difficult for Eddie to see Erin in a leadership role. She'd acted quickly earlier, and that took the type of initiative that only a leader truly had. He just shrugged at her answer though. He'd expected such humility anyway. She was humble, despite her obvious beauty and her sharp mind as well. Clearly she was very intelligent. It took that to run your own business. But it could also be tiresome, so there had to be a will about you to do such a thing as well. So many good things he could see in her, it made him wonder if there was anything bad about her at all. He couldn't see there being anything.
He laughed at her comment about her smell, or lack of smell, of gasoline and gunpowder. It made sense, of course, considering they'd just been in one hell of a fight. Most of the time his team would come back smelling like that, or worse, from their battles. This one wasn't so earth shattering as the fights the Spartans got in, but it was still just as important to keep the people in the city alive. There was nothing more important than keeping people safe. He had to admit, at least to himself, that it felt good having her arms wrapped around his neck, her body pressed up against his. He found it difficult to keep composed, but luckily he was trained to keep a cool head under extreme circumstances. No one was in danger here, but it still qualified as that sort of situation, extreme.
They'd come to a landing in the room just outside of the bridge. There was a large windshield separating the two areas, and the ship's captain gave a small wave to the two as they arrived. "That's Captain Faulkner. He's piloted this thing since it was built. That's the bridge, and we're in the meeting area." He smiled at her comment about the floating boat being invisible. "Yeah, I couldn't reveal all the secrets, now could I?" he added with a smirk. He grudgingly let go of her waist, as he'd realized that he was still holding on, his hand lingering just above her left hip. "Not really sure where the team is, but they're probably around somewhere. We'll see if you can meet any of them." He motioned with his head for her to follow.

Erin took a good look at the bridge, giving a smile and wave to the captain. “Wow yeah, I guess you can’t replace him. Who else would know what all those different buttons do!” She was sure there was probably a process manual around somewhere, but the page count on that thing was probably head-spinning. Artificial intelligence undoubtedly helped too, but still. It had to take a great deal of skill and knowledge to run a place like this. Captain Faulkner looked like a dependable person. Whether or not Erin decided to join up with this group in the long run, she was glad Elite had a good crew supporting him. “Well I mean you could have, but then I wouldn’t have needed to come and visit so I guess you’re right. Not as good for recruiting purposes.”
The moment finally came when his powerful arms were no longer wrapped around her, and Erin couldn’t help but feel a certain sense of loss. She followed his lead and removed her arms from around his neck, but did notice that he didn’t completely break off the physical contact, though, and that was a relief. Denying her attraction to this man was just not something that was possible. Which is why she quickly followed when he nodded his head in the right direction, staying close to him as they walked just in case he wanted to keep his hand right where it was. Which would obviously be just fine by her. She’d thought he was gorgeous when she’d seen him on the news in the past, but being around him in person was so much more intense.
So he wanted her to meet the other members of his team. That probably shouldn’t be a surprise considering the fact that this was a recruitment, but she still felt flattered. It was hard for her to believe that someone like her was even here on the Thermopylae in the first place. She made jewelry as her career for crying out loud. That was how she’d chosen to use her powers for the most part up to now. She didn’t belong here with the real heroes. “No rush. I’ve got nowhere to be, really, until my shop is fixed.” She could always just go home, but she’d never been the kind of person who could just sit around and be content. Erin liked to stay busy. That was currently working in Elite’s favor if he wanted her on the team, at least temporarily. Maybe he’d get what he wanted, after all.

"Yeah, that's for sure," Eddie said with a laugh. There was no way that Faulkner could ever be replaced. They'd be a fool to even try. The man was a legend in the field of flying machinery. There was nothing the man couldn't keep in the air. His daughter, seated in one of the control seats to his left, was nearly just as adept. Genetics, he figured, but her father was the most dependable person he knew. Eddie was happy that he had such a great crew as well. "Yeah, I guess you're right," he answered with a laugh. "But keeping our location secret is sort of a paramount thing. Just shows that I trust you with it." He finished the last part of his statement with a sly smile.
And yes, his hand did manage to stay hovering just over her hip. He couldn't deny just how beautiful the woman was, and really at this point he didn't even care about professionalism. He just wanted to stay close to her while they walked through the flying fortress. They passed by the training area, and he led her in for a brief view. "This is where we train for missions. We work on our teamwork and other things. Sometimes it's just used like a gym. Conflict is bad about that. He destroys the place. It's actually kinda funny to see sometimes." There were a lot of times actually that he'd stop and watch. The guy could really trash the place. "It's all hologram stuff, so no one really gets hurt and nothing really gets wrecked." Then there were times when Conflict and Monster would get in there to see who would cause the most damage. Monster didn't really get into it that much, but he and Conflict were friends and Logan was a good guy like that.
There were Eagle's Nest agents all over the place today. The crew comprised mostly of them, but they typically weren't in their covert gear like they were today. It probably had a lot to do with the situation down below. "Yeah, sorry about that. I'll be sure to put in the call today to get that handled for you. In the meantime though you're more than welcome here as long as you'd like to stay."

Aww, he trusted her with the secrets of the Spartans. Obviously, since he’d brought her here in the first place and was passively trying to recruit her. It was still nice to hear him say it, though. If it wasn’t for her business, there was no doubt in her mind that she would have signed her name on the dotted line to join whatever club this man was recruiting for. Even despite the shop and how much she loved her art, she was still tempted. Nothing had ever gotten her this close to giving up something she’d spent her entire life trying to build before. That probably meant it would not be a good idea in the long run for her to work under him. Or maybe it would be great. Dammit, she didn’t know. She was usually so decisive.
The training area was especially interesting to her. “Wow, it must be really realistic holograms if you’re able to use them for training.” In order for the agents to be able to use their powers, the objects and locations inside the chamber had to have a certain amount of tangibility. Especially for the individuals whose powers were very physical in nature. It was impressive. She laughed a little when he mentioned Conflict’s habit of destroying the place. “Definitely better than him doing that in a regular training room. He’s probably glad to have somewhere he can let loose.”
Erin smiled up at him. “You really don’t need to keep apologizing, you know. You didn’t wreck my place.” He hadn’t even been there at the time. Now if he’d been the one who designed those robots, that would be an entirely different story. That man definitely owed her an apology. And many other people too, of course. It was really nice that he cared. “I don’t mind hanging around here, but I don’t want to be in the way.” What she would be doing during her days while everyone else was working, she had no clue. Where would she even sleep? “You planning to let me crash on your couch?” Given the size of this ship, there were probably extra rooms around somewhere, but she didn’t want to make any assumptions.

To be fair, Eddie was almost always recruiting. As good, damn good, as his current teammates were, they were still a small team volume wise. And for their abundance of strength and toughness, they lacked some of the more subtle abilities that a team needed to truly be successful. They didn't have anyone with any real stealth skill. The majority of the team's attacking abilities were melee. Really, Conflict was the only one who had any range, even though he rarely used it. Eddie knew that Hale was training his teams to eventually join the Spartans, or even replace them, but his team needed to expand and it needed to do so quickly. One day there was going to come a threat that brute force just can't overcome. Eddie shuddered at the thought of that.
On the subject of the holograms, Erin was right. They had to be very realistic and very tangible. And indeed they were. "It's a crazy detailed program, really. I don't even understand the specifics. Logic built and coded the whole thing, almost by himself. Super brain power there, but I know it also took a lot out of him. Not that he'd admit that." This area of the flying fortress was a place that Eddie, other than training, didn't have much use for. It was good to be prepared and to blow off steam from time to time, but there was only so much that holograms in a fake environment could get you ready for.
"I know. Still I wish it hadn't happened," he responded about him being apologetic about her store. He knew that it had to mean a lot to her. Everyone he knew had something to be proud of and that was her thing. Still, she'd have it back soon enough. "You won't be in the way at all." Of that he was certain. Then came the question of where she would stay. "Like I'd let you sleep on a couch. You could stay in my place though." Shit...did he really just say that. Never mind that his hand still hadn't moved from her hip. "Whatever you're most comfortable with, I mean. But no couches. Plenty of beds on board," he said sharply, bashfully.

“It must be really impressive. Hard to believe it was created by one man.” This place just kept getting more and more impressive in her eyes. And it had started off being an invisible flying ship for goodness sake. It was difficult to surpass that. What kind of an intellect must this guy Logic have if he was able to create that entire program by himself? It boggled her mind, that was for sure. She knew nothing about programming in the first place, so making something that complicated was far beyond her capabilities. It took all kinds, that was for sure. The more diverse the group of people in terms of their life experiences and ways of thinking, the better in her mind. That was part of why she understood why Eddie was trying to recruit her. His team was very power-heavy, with lots of melee fighters. It could only be improved if they had some people with more range. As long as they could work together with the rest of the team, that is.
Erin smiled. “I appreciate you saying that.” Part of her almost didn’t mind her place getting wrecked. After all, if it weren’t for the robot attack she would never have met him. Of course, the robots could still have attacked and just not hit her shop. That was also possible. She would still have met Eddie, but he might not have brought her up here to show her around. After all, she would have had a shop to run and couldn’t very well just take a bunch of time off to go gallivanting through the air with a real live superhero. Ehh who was she kidding? She would have made time. One does not simply turn down an invitation from the gorgeous leader of the Spartans!
Hearing his offer to let her crash in his place, but not sleep on the couch, made Erin stop walking and look up at him suspiciously. He hadn’t seemed like the kind of guy that would use his fame and whatnot to get girls into his bed, but maybe she was wrong? She often misunderstood people’s intentions unless they were upfront about things the way she usually was. He was quick to correct himself, though, and she relaxed again. “You had me worried there for a minute…” she admitted with a laugh. “I think it will be fun to hang around here for a few days.” It was a once in a lifetime opportunity he was giving her, that was for sure. She’d be an idiot if she didn’t take advantage. Besides, what else was she going to do? Crash with her sister while her place was rebuilt? This was way better.
