Minutes passed by in relative silence as they watched the sun dip below the horizon. As he’d promised, the dusk colors in this particular location were breathtaking. She’d seen pictures of sunsets like these, but had never seen anything like it in person. The gentle crash of the waves and the warmth emanating from the body of the man next to her on the towel only added to the experience. Michelle felt like she was in the middle of a dream, especially after feeling his arm wrap gently around her. It was the perfect moment, like everything was right in the world. “Yeah…” she agreed when hearing him say it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. She definitely couldn’t remember ever having seen a more beautiful landscape than this one.
But then she realized he wasn’t looking in the same direction she was. His head was turned in her direction. She lifted her head and was surprised to find his gaze locked onto her. It wasn’t until their eyes met that she realized he may not have been referring to the sunset, after all. “What? Do I have something on my face?” she asked quietly, just above a whisper like she was afraid speaking aloud might ruin the moment. Maybe it would. There was some kind of spell he seemed to have over her, and there was no single part of her that wanted to break free from it.
The last thing she wanted to do was misunderstand, to overestimate his thoughts or feelings when it came to her. But she was hopeful, and growing increasingly moreso by the minute. If he felt… if he had the same feeling in his gut that she had… It was scary and exhilarating at the same time. Just from the tiny amount of conversation they’d shared the first day they’d met, and on their walk here from the school, Michelle could sense they were kindred spirits. If this feeling in her gut was real, they could possibly be so much more than that. It was that feeling and something about the look in his eyes which spurred her into action. Maybe she was wrong about what he was thinking and feeling, but there was one quick way to know for sure and clear up any lingering cobwebs of doubt. She leaned forward and pressed her lips gently against his own.

The different colors bounced across the sky, cascading off of each other and forming a beautiful scene. It almost seemed unreal, like a painting or some form of art. But for the first time since he'd been coming here to watch the sun set over the horizon, Logan didn't see a bit of it. He could only see the woman sitting next to him. For every hue of blue or orange or violet, there was a small feature of her face that entranced him. Whether it was that smile, or the flicker in her eyes, or that cute little nose, or those perfectly white teeth, it was something, and it was everything. He gave a small smirk when she asked if she had something on her face, noticing the low tone she used. She did actually have a small fleck of what appeared to be paint on her right nostril, something he'd actually just noticed, but he wouldn't ruin the moment by saying anything about that. Still, he couldn't help but smile. How was it possible to feel like this about someone you'd barely just met?
What happened next took him completely by surprise. A welcome surprise, but a surprise it was. Of course he'd been thinking about doing the same thing, but he wasn't sure he would have been able to act on the impulse he was obviously feeling. But in the moment that her lips touched his, instinct took over. He pulled her closer to him, allowing himself to just live in the moment. His free hand moved to her cheek, lightly caressing her flesh until the kiss naturally broke. They had to breathe at some point, of course. "I was talking about you," he said slowly. "The most beautiful thing I've ever seen." There was no lie in his words, she truly was just what he said.
He smiled again as he briefly looked away. The sun had fully set, and the air filled with that familiar nightly chill. "We should get you indoors, it's going to get cold soon," he said. There were plenty of places that they could go for food or just for drinks. Whatever she wanted was fine with him. He wasn't necessarily hungry, but he could always eat. The team often called him 'garbage gut' because of his ability to pack away food by the truckloads. "Anywhere you want to go is fine with me. As long as I get to spend more time with you, I'm good."

She hadn’t meant to kiss him. That hadn’t been her plan. Her mind had nothing to do with it, it just sort of happened. In that perfect moment, with her eyes locked onto his, the next thing she knew she’d leaned in and that was all she wrote. If he hadn’t been so quick to respond, she might have panicked and thought this was all a hugely bad idea. She didn’t even have a chance to overthink things, though. What she’d done was just barely starting to register before she felt him pulling her closer. Oh thank goodness. His reaction told her more quickly and certainly than words ever could that they were on the same wavelength in terms of their feelings for each other.
When the kiss broke and he spoke, Michelle blushed deeply. “Oh… okay.” What could she really say in response to that? The huge smile on her face should tell him everything he needed to know about the way his words affected her, though. He was right, though. Now that the sun had fully set, it was only going to get colder out here. “Are you sure you’re not too cold?” she asked, looking down at the plan t-shirt he was wearing since he’d given her his sweatshirt. Wasn’t he cold with just that on? Some men just didn’t get cold except in extreme circumstances, but she wasn’t sure whether or not Logan was one of those guys. He might just be overly sweet and making himself uncomfortable for her sake. She could always give the sweatshirt back. Not that she wasn’t grateful he’d let her borrow the garment, because she was definitely glad she had the extra layer on now. She was just a natural worrier by nature. Especially when she cared about someone.
So he wanted to spend some more time with her. It was just a matter of where. Michelle tried to think about the places she’d seen along the way when they were walking over here. “Wasn’t there a Mexican food place not too far back?” She loved Mexican food, but had no idea how good this place would be. At the very least, they were close to the water so any seafood they served had to be fresh, right? She figured it was a pretty good bet.

The kiss. It was like nothing he'd ever experienced. Despite the suddenness of it, there was so much passion behind it, so much emotion. And Logan felt all of that too. He didn't want to break the kiss. Why would he? He had completely fallen for this woman as swiftly as a speedster could round a corner. But the simple fact was that the night was getting colder, and there was no way he was going to stand for taking the chance that she would get sick. He had his powers to protect him to a certain degree, but there wasn't anything telekinesis could do to protect you from the cold....other than maybe using it to wrap a blanket around you. He shook that thought quickly and smiled.
"A little," he answered. "But I'm okay as long as you aren't cold." As they stood up he made the bold move of putting his arm around her and pulling her close again as they started to walk to the Mexican food restaurant. For being a super hero, Logan didn't know the area overly well. Sure he knew certain spots, but his knowledge of the city was nothing compared to his compatriots in the Spartans. Elite knew the city like the back of his hand, Glory and Conflict did as well, to a slightly lesser degree, but Logan wasn't the leader, so that knowledge wasn't as important for him. He just followed along and lifted the heaviest shit. Once the two cleared the beach, Logan stopped briefly to shake any loose sand from his shoes and lower legs, and they were off again.
They found the restaurant, and Logan smiled as they were welcomed in with a politeness that was rare today. "I guess they're happy to get our business," he said with a smirk. The two were ushered to a table and seated quickly. Menus were handed to them and the waiter pointed out that he recommended the jalapeno nachos for an appetizer, but to drink plenty of water with it. He then said he'd be back to get their drink order and give them time to look over the menu. "This place is pretty nice," Logan said as he peered over the menu at those beautiful eyes across from him.

Michelle couldn’t remember ever having met a more considerate man. Every time she found something else to like about Logan, she could feel herself falling deeper and deeper. It wasn’t fair. There had been plenty of men who tried to get close to her, but none of them even came close when she compared them to him now. Honestly though, what was there not to like? To say that he was gorgeous would be a sorry understatement. But then to top that off, he was gentle and kind, had a good sense of humor. Then there was that mysterious, unpredictable element too. The thing that made her heart speed up when he touched her and gave her butterflies in her stomach. There had been plenty of men she’d been attracted to in the past where the spark was just not there. Logan had it all.
They made it to the restaurant after a short walk, and Logan seemed pleased with her choice after the warm reception they got from the staff. “Probably. The tourists that come this close to the beach probably head to the closest fancy seafood restaurant.” That was one great thing about being this close to the water. Fresh seafood. Shrimp and fish were some of Michelle’s favorites. But it didn’t need to come from somewhere fancy. She’d learned long ago that some of the best food, especially ethnic food, could come from small, hole-in-the-wall establishments like this one.
Jalapeno nachos sounded pretty good to her, although hopefully they weren’t too spicy. It had been a while since she’d come to a place like this. She didn’t tend to use as much spice like chili peppers in her cooking at home so she wasn’t as used to it. It didn’t take her long to decide what she wanted to eat and drink, then Logan drew her attention again with his comment. “Yeah, it really has a nice atmosphere, doesn’t it?” She looked around at the distinctly Mexican decor and smiled. It was all so colorful and fun-looking. “And most importantly, it’s much warmer in here than it was outside.” Though to be honest, she’d barely noticed the cold out there once Logan wrapped his arm around her. Not fair. And could he please stop looking at her like that? Her heart would not stop pounding. “What? You’re giving me that look again…”

Thinking back to the museum, Logan could remember every thought he'd had that day. As important as it was to ensure the safety of the children, even then he couldn't help but to be sure that Michelle was safe. The assholes who'd attacked the place were strong, but there were few beings in existence that were as strong as the one known as Monster. Logan couldn't imagine a more perfect woman. Everything about her was amazing, from her cute little nose to her full lips, the way her hair fell perfectly, and of course that body too. There was no imagining a more amazing woman. Now, sitting across from her at the Mexican restaurant, he knew that every thought had been right. He couldn't help but smile, luckily that smile was hidden below the menu.
"It really does, doesn't it?" he responded about her comment on the atmosphere. The place was just comfortable, even before they'd sat down he could tell. It did make sense too, what she'd said about the tourists and the fancy seafood restaurants. Logan did enjoy seafood too, but he was a simpler man when it came to taste in food. Burgers and fries, pizza, chicken fingers, and let's not forget the most amazing food ever created.....bacon. "It is much warmer in here," he said with a chuckle. He was glad that she was more comfortable in here. It would actually probably get pretty warm when the food showed up on those cool heated plates that places like this usually served their food on.
His eyes wouldn't leave her face though, and she brought it up. With a bit of embarrassment on his face, he briefly looked away. "I'm sorry," he said bashfully. "I just can't help it." He looked back at her. "I just, I can't remember ever feeling so much for someone so quickly, you know?" He shrugged. The waiter came back with the nachos and set them on the table. "Are you ready to order?" he asked. Logan was, but he waited for Michelle's answer. If she wasn't ready, he could wait. "I bet you've got quite the appetite," the waiter joked at Logan. The hero was a large man, for sure. And he could pack the food away too.

“Mmhmm…” The decor was so perfect. Not over the top, just warm and welcoming with that distinct Mexican vibe that could be found nowhere else. Michelle was very glad they’d chosen to come here instead of somewhere a little more upscale. She really didn’t need anything fancy. He’d stated earlier that as long as he got to spend more time with her, he was good, and that was exactly the way she felt about the situation as well. They were in so deep and they barely knew each other. This was crazy. But there was no denying how safe and treasured she felt anytime Logan wrapped his arms around her. It might be naive of her, but she didn’t want to fight this feeling. Every instinct she possessed was telling her to just dive in headfirst.
That was why she was relieved when he explained why his eyes were so focused on her. She broke eye contact for a moment to look down at the table and smily shyly. “Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.” If those people hadn’t attacked the museum, Michelle might not have ever met this man. They would have walked right past each other, and she would have been so busy corralling the children that she would not have even noticed him if they’d been standing right next to each other. Everything happens for a reason. She’d always believed that, but this thing with Logan was just reinforcing the philosophy.
She hadn’t actually been paying all that much attention to the menu since they’d arrived, but luckily when the waiter returned she knew exactly what she wanted. “Can I get the shrimp enchiladas please?” she asked politely. They were so close to the waterfront that it would probably be considered a crime if at least one of them didn’t order seafood of some kind. These small places tended to have some of the best food too, so she was excited to see what this restaurant had to offer. After Logan put in his order and the waiter took the menus, she reached for the nachos. She’d only picked up one chip, but as sometimes happened there were three or four all connected by a web of delicious melted cheese and other toppings. Good thing napkins existed, because this was likely going to be a little messy.

This day was going great. But Logan knew that it would once he got to see Michelle again. During his recovery from the fight at the museum she had been all that was on his mind. It almost troubled him, having met someone in such a tense situation and feeling that much already. Some might say that the adrenaline had kicked in a bit too much. But Logan knew that wasn't it. This was real, as real as the menus in front of them and as real as the beauty sitting across from him. Fortune favors the bold, or so they say. He had promised to come see her once he'd recovered, and he'd done it the way he said he would. He was a man of his word, after all.
He smiled when she said she knew what he meant. That was a good sign. If she was feeling even half of what he was, then this was just going to be perfect. Part of him had wished that the attack at the museum hadn't happened, but the fact was that they'd probably have never met if it didn't. That was....unless the kids were put in danger somewhere else by other villains. No doubt she could have handled it with her powers, but Logan found that he would have been very upset had he not been able to be there to keep the children safe. He'd already decided that 'Hammer' was his favorite. It didn't hurt that the boy had great taste in women, though competition wasn't something that Logan wanted here. He gave a light chuckle at the thought.
After Michelle ordered her food, Logan took one last look at the menu and then back at the waiter. "I'll take the shrimp enchiladas too, the fajita dinner and six soft tacos," he said with a smile. "Quite the appetite," he laughed. The waiter laughed too. Part of his what made his powers so effective was his very high metabolism. He had to pack away the food. He could do so even before he got his powers, but now it was just ridiculous. After the waiter went off, Logan then stopped and looked at her again. "So, I guess I didn't ask you this before because I didn't want to pry. But when did you discover that you had powers?" he asked in a more hushed tone.
