"You three are the advanced class," a voice boomed out over the large, empty room. The three trainees had been brought to the room for their final training exercise. This was where it would get really grueling. DJ had heard of Eagle's Nest's training programs before. It was rumored that the situations Hale put in front of his teams were damn near impossible to complete the objectives. "In a few moments, you'll see a battlefield appear in front of you. There will be life-like and large robotic opponents roaming about the place. They will attack you. It's up to you to work as a team to do three things." The room began to shift a bit and the images of a large, destroyed city block became visible. "Three?" DJ questioned with a slight shake of his head. It was well known that he could be a bit lazy sometimes. But he was no less committed to this team than anyone else.
"One, you'll defeat the robots in combat to get into the marked building. Once inside, you'll rescue and hostage from another group of robots. However one of them will be guarding the hostage, so you can't allow that one to see you, or the hostage will be killed. At that point, you'll extract the hostage and you'll find the 'boss fight' back outside of the building. I'll leave what that is for a surprise. I'll say this though, Logic has outdone himself on this one. So, I hope you're ready."
As the last few words left the mouth of the agent giving instructions, the rest of the room materialized into the battlefield, and shots were instantly fired towards the three. "Shit! Get down!" DJ yelled out. The blasts slammed into the area surrounding them. "Sorry," the voice called out again. "Bossman says the enemy won't warn you before firing at you, so we shouldn't during the training programs." All the trainees knew that there was no real danger to them. This was just training. "Okay, we need a plan," DJ said after mumbling something vulgar about the previous statement. "I'm guessing we have to K.O. every single one of the robo-pricks before we get inside. I say we should use the terrain to our advantage. Distractions and what not. Any ideas?"

Rachelle knew that teamwork was necessary in order to overcome many of the missions she would be facing as a member of the Eagle’s Nest. Still, it felt a little unfair for the three of them to be expected to work together with no real notice or time to come up with a plan. Sure, she knew the other two somewhat. They’d begun their training around the same time, so of course they’d occasionally bumped into each other. That didn’t mean that she knew the ins and outs of their powers. Not well enough to make a particularly good strategy, at any rate. Knowing Nathan Hale, that was part of this test. As much as Rachelle knew that the director was doing what he needed to do to ensure they were battle-ready, sometimes she swore that man had sadistic tendencies. Today was not going to contradict that belief, she was guessing.
Shots rang out, and she immediately ran to take cover behind an overturned car. She peered out once to get a better layout of the land, spotting very little that she figured would aid them in taking out these robots. Very little, but that didn’t mean nothing. “Could one of you take out those fire extinguishers? That would be a pretty good start…” If she had enough water on the ground, she could possibly take out a few of them with a single electrical attack. But even short of that, the more water there was in the area, the more weapons she would have at her disposal. Might tip the odds in their favor just a little.
Gripping her staff tightly, she continued looking around for anything that might be useful out here on the street. They could worry about what was waiting for them inside the building once they’d cleared out all the bad guys out here. If the other two didn’t have any kind of power that would be useful for taking out those hydrants, she had a backup plan. She did think she remembered Momentum having super strength. The three of them were at the top of their class, after all. That meant they’d all stood out in their own way, so it was easier to keep track of them than it would be for just about any of the other trainees. She just hoped they could work well enough together to pass this test.

A good part of what Zel wanted to understand about humans and Earth was the value of teamwork. On her home planet they had something she guessed was fairly similar called ru'tl, but that was more or less an overall effort for the harmony and productivity of all beings, not helping a few allies in fighting an enemy. Before, that was a concept she hadn't known and was struggling to find its meaning. That didn't mean she didn't trust those who'd saved her from the wild planet and gave her a home, she just didn't get them and their funny ways. The longer she remained with them, one would think learning about them would become easier but it wasn't. She understood little more than the when she'd first crashed landed, knew a lot more whats but the whys were becoming so much more complex.
In this sense, she felt she didn't deserve to be considered advanced class. Sure she was diligent and her eagerness made up for her incapabilities, but it didn't seem like enough, not saying she wouldn't continue to work hard and give a solid effort. This training was a good exercise in just that. Zel paid close attention to the voice as it gave them instructions, taking off her shoes so she could move easier and tossing them aside. A shot fired out immediately after the voice stopped and the viscokinetic alien dropped, her form falling into a gelatinous puddle onto the floor. The puddle sat still for a moment then seemed to roll towards the other two trainees, remolding to a human form in a ducking position once behind the safety of a divot in the ground. "What is K.O.?" she asked, picking only one of the terms that wasn't familiar. From context, she guessed robo-prick to mean the robots.
Robots meant her powers were useless unless she could water-log them, which she found unlikely considering the number of them compared to the volume of liquid her body produced. Or maybe if she could get close enough to one, she could tear it apart or rewire it, again, unlikely. Teamwork, she thought again in an effort to remember what powers her teammates held. In the end, she asked the one called Rayne, "Your stick," there was another name for it, one more useful sounding, but couldn't come up with it. "What does it do?" She thought she remembered the trainee being knowledgable in elemental magic or the staff being magic, something of the sort. She tried to come up with a way that could be useful with her own ability to manipulate fluid, but fell short. Momentum's capabilities, she knew but couldn't place a use for herself with them. Her best guess for an idea was if she and Rachelle could work together while DJ provided some sort of distraction. Trying to put that into explainable terms was difficult and in the end, she tried to send it the thought to both of them telempathically--likely impossible with no words involved, only abstract thought and emotion.

DJ's mind was spinning right now. It was a good thing that he wasn't in the running to be team leader, because sometimes he was a little too scatterbrained for his own good. The action of the training exercise snapped him back to "reality" though. He took a deep breath as Rachelle was throwing out suggestions. He nodded when she mentioned the fire extinguisher. One quick toss of something heavy should dislodge the hydrant and give her plenty of water to work with. His eyes caught her grip tightening on her staff, and he couldn't help the dirty thoughts going through his mind. He shook his head and looked down to see a manhole cover. As he started to lift it up from the ground, he heard Zel's question. "Sorry," he said. "It means knock out." Sometimes he didn't think about how difficult it was for her to adjust to the Earthling way of talking and doing things. One thing though, he did think her powers were pretty freakin' cool. "That's so wicked," he said with a smile about her turning into a puddle and back to human form.
"Okay, so I'm gonna throw this manhole cover to dislodge the hydrant. That should give you both plenty of water to use. I'll just bring up a ruckus and keep the attention on me while you ladies work your magic." There were plenty of cars and rubble around that he could easily have a good time with. He smiled as he looked back over his shoulder. He looked back to them and smiled. "Let's have a little fun with it." He stood and threw the manhole cover. He used just enough force to smash the hydrant, and water spewed from the hole in the ground. "I do like throwing things," he said as he leapt from behind cover and rushed towards a vehicle. He put his shoulder down and rammed into the vehicle, sending it flying towards a small group of the robots.
A few of them dodged out of the way and started firing towards him. "Hey! Didn't your mom ever teach you to clean up after yourself?" he asked as he grabbed a piece of rubble the blasts had broken up and tossed it towards them. "They're robots. I'm pretty sure they don't have mothers," the voice rang out over the loudspeaker again. "Can't help it," DJ yelled back. "Jokes about mommas never get old." Yes, he was a bit of a juvenile sometimes. But the team knew that. So far they didn't seem to mind that. "Rock and roll!" he yelled out as he tossed a large rock. And of course, he only yelled it because the large rock slammed into the ground and started rolling quickly towards the robots. He chuckled as one of them was rolled over by it.

Rachelle didn’t think she could ever get used to the way Zel could shift form. The alien’s powers might be useful if used strategically. Thank goodness she had a fairly tactical mind. That actually might allow them to make it through this successfully. Especially since she wouldn’t have to do this alone. The additional variables of the rest of the team and their strengths and powers could potentially make them a force to be reckoned with. “It helps me channel my lightning powers when I use them,” she explained to Zel. It was extremely useful in terms of being able to direct and control the power of the blasts. “The rest of the time, it’s just a weapon.” A pretty useful weapon that the Eagle’s Nest had helped her perfect while she trained, and now she could barely picture herself without it. Even its weight was something she’d grown accustomed to by now. Like an extension of her arm, as cliche as that would undoubtedly sound if she were to speak the thought aloud. Which was why she had no intention of doing so. DJ would probably never let her hear the end of it. She didn’t know the guy well, but the way he was joking around even now told her not to give him any openings. Well, that was probably impossible. A good comedian could find a joke in just about anything. Oh well.
Zel had a decent idea, actually, if DJ was okay with being used as a distraction. The fact that the alien could even vaguely communicate that idea nonverbally was another potentially useful skill that could be developed if the Eagle’s Nest ended up turning them into a formal team. He didn’t seem to mind drawing their attention at all. That was lucky, and not completely surprising. “Okay great. You two keep their focus while I charge up. I can probably short circuit a good portion of them with a single strike if there’s enough water on the ground, so try to stay dry once the hydrant is gone so you don’t get blasted.” She looked at DJ with a smirk. “Do as much damage as you can.” If he could take out a few out here while there was room to maneuver, that would be ideal. They would need to figure out something for the robots indoors. The stealth portion might be more difficult, but she had an idea for that too. First they would have to get to that point.
She chuckled a little at DJ’s jokes as he started distracting the robots. Now was the time to concentrate. Energy quickly started building around her. It wasn’t long before the hairs on the back of her neck were standing on end from the electricity in the air around her, which she was condensing into a ball in her hands. This much would be enough to maybe take out one, but she needed more. The more time the other two members of her team could buy for her, the more robots she would be able to take out.
