"You're all animals." Kaiel shook her head, sitting cross legged on the couch in the Fire Station's common area. She looked over at the table where most of the firemen and her partner sat, they were playing a game of Monopoly to make the shift go by faster. It had been a very quiet day, and so far there had only been one minor call, an old woman had trouble breathing and had to be taken to the hospital. She was fine on the ambulance ride, even talking to Kaiel about her grandchildren that were visiting.
Of course, because it was a slow day, something was about to come up. The candidate for Truck 31 who'd been cleaning the bathroom stuck his head into the common room and looked at everyone before muttering that it was unusually quiet. Not ten seconds later, the alarm rang, and they were back in business. Kaiel ran to the ambulance with her partner and they were off, following closely behind the fire truck. There had been an accident, someone wasn't paying attention and had hit a school bus full of children headed home from school. The school bus had tipped over, leaving a few trapped in the bus and a few that were injured from the tip.
Once they arrived on scene, Kaiel went into action mode, not paying attention to anything around her. It was a triage effort, being only one of two ambulances on scene. Most kids had a few bruises and scratches or minor cuts. One kid had a cut on his scalp that would require stitches, he was put into the other ambulance and taken to the hospital. Kaiel kept the doors to the ambulance open as kids came by to have their minor injuries cared for, a few band aids and rolls of gauze later, and they were good as new. A few even requested to sit in the ambulance. Of course, the driver who caused the accident was on the phone with his lawyer, far too annoyed with everyone. He had a concussion and instead of allowing himself to be treated, he made a scene. He was yelling at the top of his lungs for the people in the crowd to be his witnesses when he went to court to try to sue the bus driver for driving in front of him when he actually had a red light. Kaiel watched the guy from a far, the police had already mostly left the scene and the few left were too busy trying to keep people away from the bus instead of trying to calm down the man who was clearly distraught. The only think Kaiel and her partner could do was sit there and watch him walk around. Kaiel took a look at the crowd that had gathered, one was taking pictures of the aftermath. It annoyed Kaiel, but maybe it was what the guy did for money, she really couldn't judge him. She had seen him before at another accident and saw a picture he must have taken on a news paper. It was at another accident - not as serious, but caused by some ambiguous A list actress who Kaiel had never heard of. Kaiel waited impatiently for the cops to finally tell them they could leave the scene. After all, the firetruck was still trying to get the bus upright without leaking fuel everywhere. Kaiel let her eyes wander again, this time making eye contact with the guy taking pictures and staring for a second before looking away.

Ever since the encounter with the alien, life had been so much different for Warren. Everything seemed so much easier. He never had a problem connecting to the internet anymore, nor did he ever have any issues with his smartphone, since he could just easily fix any problems now. Even work had been easier. Using his new abilities, he could even set up decent shots for his camera. He'd made a pretty good living for himself recently, even getting a nicer house and the pool he'd wanted for about a year now. Still though, he couldn't just rest on his laurels. He had to get out there and work to keep that money coming in. Fortunately, well fortunately for his wallet anyway, there had been a wreck and he was close to it. When he heard there were kids involved it bothered him greatly, but he got there quickly, taking a taxi and arriving within twenty minutes of hearing about the crash. A firetruck and ambulances were just pulling up as he paid the cabbie. No sooner than he got there did he hear the bus driver asking loudly, where was Allen.
Trusty Nikkon camera hanging from his neck, he moved about quickly, finding great shots of the wreck. Some people might consider what he was doing vulturing, but the simple truth was that it was honest work, and it was paying much better recently than it had been. Warren moved behind the bus, and that's when he started hearing the man who had caused the accident yelling and carrying on. A look of disdain crossed his face and he moved over towards the man. Two firefighters were trying to get the man to back up away from the wreckage, but he was having none of it. Warren shook his head, and looked around more. That's when he caught the pretty medic looking at him. He gave a small smile before she looked away. Eh, she probably wouldn't like him much anyway, he thought to himself. But the other voice in his head kept telling him to go talk to her. "Zip it, you," he said silently, to the alien in his brain. He knelt down when he saw something flash under a piece of rubble. He considered not even bothering, considering last time he'd found something it had bonded with him. But he couldn't abate his curiosity. He moved a the rubble to see a child on the ground. "Oh, shii..." he started to say, before he realized that it was the child's watch that caught a reflection and drew his attention. Well, as much as he hated the way it came about, he had a reason to go over and see the pretty medic.
He lifted the kid, pulling him from the wreckage, and carrying him swiftly over to the ambulance. "He was under the rubble. Looks hurt pretty bad, like he got thrown from the bus or something," he called out as he got close to the ambulance. He waited for direction as to where to put the child. "Allen, maybe?" he asked, shrugging a bit. Maybe this was the kid that the bus driver was looking for so frantically.

Kaiel cleared her throat, looking at her partner and thinking of packing up and leaving. Even the firemen looked tired, and it was about the end of their long shift. Kaiel was ready to get out of the ambulance and fire station where they were situated and finally get home. She stepped out of the ambulance, to sit on the back bumper of the ambulance, it probably looked like they were lazy, and they were. Well, Kaiel was. She went to a gym on her days off, and then went home and got into her pjs and vegged on the couch all day - not that anyone could tell. Kaiel could hear the bus driver yelling for someone, and stood. Were all the children not accounted for? On a gut feeling, Kaiel signaled to her partner to get the gurney out of the ambulance, they might have another patient. Then there he was - the one Kaiel had seen before, and the one that Kaiel's partner egged her on to talk to time and time again.
Okay, so at first the only thing she could see was his face, his eyes squinted in the sun, as he walked toward them. Then she looked a little lower, he had nice arms. Then she saw dark green that wasn't part of his shirt, it was a kid! Kaiel sprung into action, pulling the gurney over to him so he didn't have to carry the kid the rest of the way. At first glance the kid looked to be in bad shape. He was unconscious, and had a gash on his forehead that clearly showed a line of white bone, and there was quite a bit of blood. But as far as Kaiel saw no broken bones. She thanked the man who she thought was attractive with a nod of her head and then ran back pulling the gurney to the ambulance. Then got the gurney in the ambulance and once again, they were off. Damn, she still didn't know that mans name. Yet she had caught another glimpse from the rear window of the ambulance as they drove toward the hospital, lights flashing and siren screaming.
The kid woke up while he was in the ambulance, something that surprised Kaiel so much she screamed. He had grabbed her arm while she was washing his wound out, apparently he didn't like the solution she was using because it was cold. She felt a little helpless, sometimes the most they could do for people was wash their wounds while they were transported. At least he had woken up, that Kaiel was thankful for. She talked to him as she pressed gauze against his wound, asking him his name and if he knew what day it was and what he was doing just prior to the accident. He answered all the questions with flying colors, impressing Kaiel when he told her who the first president was and what he had done during his presidency.
Once he was at the hospital, Kaiel and her partner returned to the ambulance and her partner spent the rest of the day nagging her about the man that was there, she knew that Kaiel had a major crush and was sick of Kaiel never coming over to her apartment for movie night to gossip about boyfriends and work. But Kaiel obliged going to a bar that night with her partner and her partners boyfriend. It was a small out of the way bar, that wasn't much like a bar at all. It had a far more friendly and slow atmosphere, and there was no dance floor where some people might obnoxiously grind their body against someone else's. Instead this was almost a family friendly bar, almost because they didn't serve chicken nuggets or have kids sippy cups. But it was a beautiful evening, and Kaiel was having fun. As much as she hated to admit that she'd rather be home. Then came the jeering from her partner, her partner was talking to her boyfriend about the guy that Kaiel had the hots for but didn't even know his name. Kaiel blushed bright red but laughed it off. "Yeah, okay. But what about you just staring at that crazy driver who kept trying to claim that he didn't cause the accident by speeding through a red light! I thought you were going to refer him to your psych boyfriend to get his head shrunk."

Well, this had not gone at all as expected. Warren had just figured that he would get a few pictures and be on about his way. Never by any stretch of his imagination would he have expected that he'd find the kid in the rubble. He gave a simple nod back when the pretty medic nodded to thank him. He didn't stick around any more after the ambulance sped off. There was no need for him to. He'd gotten a few photos, which he could sell to the news station and he'd be set for the week, if not longer. So that was his next point of interest. He made his way to the nearest newspaper, the Sapphire City Times, building and up to the editor's office. It wasn't long after that he'd sold the pictures and was on out of the building again. It was time to celebrate. But, it was still a little early for that....
So his next stop was a clothing store. He wasn't big on shopping, but he had to admit that his wardrobe was a bit outdated. He had a shirt and tie that he used for formal situations, so that wasn't even what he was looking for. Just everyday clothes. He bought a couple pairs of jeans and a few shirts. He went home afterwards to wash those clothes and get a quick snack. It didn't hurt that he got to watch one of his favorite cartoons while he snacked. So a few hours passed, and during that time he actually caught a quick nap as well. He got up, showered, grabbed a pair of his new jeans and t-shirt, and was out the door. No need to bring his camera this time. He wasn't intending on taking any pictures tonight. He almost forgot his cell phone, but the alien partner within pinged him in the head to remind him. "Yeah, yeah," he said as he grabbed the phone.
He went to one of his favorite bars, a little place not far from his apartment. It was a nice place, and was within walking distance. He didn't even need to show his ID at the door, because he was a regular here. "Thanks, Mike," he said, greeting the doorman. Mike lifted his chin to answer, and Warren made his way in. He went up to the bar and ordered his Heineken that he got every time he was there. He had a short conversation with the bartender, a man he'd known for a long time. But the bartender had to move on so he could serve his patrons. Warren turned around to lean against the bar. His head tilted when he saw the pretty medic again. Well, another unexpected, but welcome, surprise for this day......
Warren took a deep breath, set his beer down and stood up. He nodded back when the bartender asked if he was alright. He cleared his throat and made his way over to their table. "Hi," he said when he made his way there, and when there was a lull in the conversation. He didn't want to interrupt. "I don't mean to impose. I know you probably want to wind down from a long day, but I remember you from today and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Warren." He extended his hand to the pretty medic. "I promise I won't overstay my welcome. I'm not that guy. I just wanted to say hello is all."

Kaiel had her back to the door, hence not knowing who came and went. It had been a long day so it didn't matter to her who walked into the bar, as long as nobody was coming in to hold anyone hostage, she was alright. It had been a long day and she was ready to retire for the night, when her partner caught a glimpse of someone coming to the door and her eyes followed him. Kaiel didn't look, judging by the look on her partners face it was the hot photographer. Kaiel did turn around and sneak a peek, then she looked down at her own beer and sipped it. Her partners boyfriend watched the guy and looked at Kaiel, and at his girlfriend. He didn't even have to ask what was going on to understand it.
Kaiel looked from her beer to her partner when her partners eyes lit up, and Kaiel looked over at the guy standing there. She listened to him speak and smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Warren. I'm Kaiel." She looked at her partner and her partners boyfriend. "This is Emily, my Ambulance partner and Chris, her boyfriend." It didn't take long for Emily to pipe up. "You can join us, if you want to. I don't think Kaiel likes being a third wheel." Emily winked and Kaiel kicked her foot under the table. Kaiel still looked up at him. "Yes, you're invited. Not because I'm the awkward third wheel, but sometimes I am... I guess." Kaiel wanted to kick herself for sounding stupid. She scooted over in the booth so he could sit down, looking over at her partner. She knew exactly what was going to happen. Once they got talking and warmed up to one another, Emily would fake being tired and her and Chris would leave, leaving Kaiel and Warren alone. Then she would be drilled for all the juicy details, like there ever were any.
Kaiel sat back in the booth and looked at her partner before looking at Warren. "Good job with saving that boy today. He probably wouldn't have made it if he was in that rubble much longer. He's doing well. He was released from the hospital tonight, so I would call today successful. But you've been at quite a few of our calls, what exactly is your job?"

Warren smiled to hear the pretty medic's name. "Emily, Chris, nice to meet you," he answered with a smile. He took a quick sip from his beer before he gave an odd look when Emily said he could join them so that Kaiel wouldn't be a third wheel. Honestly, Warren found it hard to believe that a woman so beautiful could ever be a third wheel. But then she basically admitted to being said third wheel. It kind of took Warren aback. So, gorgeous and down to earth, that was a great combination. Dare he say the perfect combination. He chuckled to cover up the thought and nodded when Kaiel offered him the invite. He sat down, placing his beer down on the table in front of him.
"Oh, thank you. I'd hoped that he was alright. I'm just glad I could have helped out." He took another sip and looked around the bar. It was starting to get a little busier. Luckily, though, it seemed to be a quiet type night. Warren liked quieter nights. They let him think, or rather, let him have a quiet conversation with the alien being. There really was no alone time at all for him anymore. "I'm a photographer. Mostly freelance," he answered. "But every now and then I take on side projects, like headshots for models or calendar work." He shrugged. "As far as being at your calls, just a stroke of luck, I guess. But to be honest, I'm kinda glad that I was. I'm glad that I got to meet you. All of you." Damn it, Warren, you're talking too much, he scolded himself silently.
This wasn't the first time that he'd been "set up" like this. He had the distinct feeling that Emily and Chris would have somewhere they had to go, or one of them wouldn't be feeling good all of a sudden, or one of them would fake a phone call. Somehow, some way, the two of them would have to go and Warren would be left there with Kaiel. If he was being honest, he wouldn't mind that at all. "So, how long have you been a medic?" he asked. Talking to each of them, of course. It would be rude to just focus on Kaiel, even though he wanted to do just that. The truth was that he almost couldn't wait until the two of them were ready to go. Still, and again, he wouldn't be rude to them. "So what do you do, Chris?" he asked inquisitively. He knew what the women did, of course. But there wasn't any sense in not at least knowing what the other man at the table did. He was glad that the night seemed to go slowly and quietly still, even though the bar was picking up with more patrons still. He figured that they would hit capacity pretty soon.

Kaiel looked at her own drink, running her finger down the side of the bottle, collecting the sweat on the tip of her finger and making it drop down onto the coaster the beer was sitting on. She got distracted by little things sometimes. "I don't think anyone was really looking for him, other than the bus driver who seemed a little hysterical when you finally found him. But no kids lost is a good thing. Sometimes things don't always go that way, it's just a good thing they did today." Kaiel gave him a nod in thanks for saving the kid. Whenever kids died it broke her heart, they were so young and innocent they just never deserved to die. "We're glad we got to meet you, too." Kaiel laughed a little. "If you're at the next call I might wave."
"Freelance photographer sounds like fun. I'm artistically challenged, not much for art. I can color inside the lines but that's about the extent that my skill goes." Kaiel grinned and took another sip of her own beer, setting it back on the coaster. When he asked how long she had been a medic, she looked at Emily. "I've been a paramedic for 3 years, same as Emily. We went to school together and graduated together. Kinda weird we ended up in the ambulance together."
When the question came to Chris, he looked at Warren and gave a quick look at Kaiel before looking at Warren. "I'm a website designer." Kaiel almost cut him off. "He's also a foot and leg model... Whenever you see those weird half bodies showing off socks and shoes, and sometimes pants... That's Chris. He models for Sports Authority. It's his side job." Kaiel grinned at Chris who shot her a dirty look. "Yeah. Kaiel tried to be an underwear model. Until she went to the modeling agency and they wanted to take body shots... She wore granny panties there." Kaiel blushed deeply and looked down at her beer. "Okay Chris. Thank you for that tidbit." She shook her head.
"It's true... I went to a modeling agency and I didn't realize they were doing body shots in the same day... So I wore comfortable clothes and then they told me to pose in a bra and underwear, and I happened to be wearing my most comfortable underwear that happened to be granny panties. I own up to it." She laughed again, then waved at the bartender for another drink and a plate of Nachos for their table. "So Warren, how long have you been a photographer and what got you into it? Have you always wanted to be a photographer?"

Warren nodded when she said that it was just good that they found the kid. He couldn't agree more. It was never good to see a child get hurt. Warren was a little soft hearted like that. Was it really soft hearted though? The question didn't really matter, he figured. On to other topics. "The fates intertwining," he chuckled after hearing about the two of them being together for so long. It was a cool story actually. And it was something he almost understood, considering that he was fated together with someone now. Of course, they weren't exactly friends like Emily and Kaiel were. But the alien wasn't that much of a burden on him. At least he got some cool powers out of it. He laughed at her little tease about saying she might wave if he's at the next call.
"Well, I'm not exactly an artist either, not in the drawing and coloring sense. He laughed again at the granny panties incident. At least she was good natured about it. Not many people could take that sort of thing in stride. Modeling seemed like it might be fun though. Not that Warren would ever give it a go. It just wasn't his thing. But to each his own.
I can't stay in the lines to save my life," he joked. "Website design? Maybe you could help me put up a page for my photography?" he said with a shrug. His attention was turned though, to answer Kaiel's question. "Well not really as long as I can remember. My dad got me one of those little thirty five millimeter cameras when I was little, and every time I have film I was going around taking pictures. Didn't make me many friends, but I enjoyed it. And it kept me out of my dad's hair." He shrugged. It was a bitter pill, but he'd already swallowed it and talking about it didn't make any difference. No sense in bringing down the mood. He gave a smile and looked back to Kaiel. He found it cute that she was so easily distracted. He could be like that sometimes too, but he tried to stay pretty observant most of the time. "But yeah, that's when it first started. And I've enjoyed it ever since. My uncle always said I should do what I enjoy. So that's what I do."

Kaiel was looking at Warren as he told them about how he got into photography. She grinned, at least he found what he loved, it was a road not many people walked on. Either fear of failure or not enough time or energy to get through college to do it. It was heartbreaking. Kaiel hoped she would one day get to work in an ER, but for the time being, she was in the ambo. It was still rewarding, still made her smile. She got to save lives, and one time she had even gotten to deliver a baby in the ambulance. That was another dream, children. She wanted at least 1 as soon as she got into a career where she wasn't working so much.
As soon as Warren had finished his story and the nachos and extra beer made it to the table, Emily did what Kaiel was afraid of - she yawned. Which was just the beginning of her act. Kaiel looked at Emily from across the table, and after a light tap on the leg from Emily, Chris got the point and looked at her, asking if she was tired, and cuddling her, before promising they'd go home. They excused themselves and Chris and Emily shook Warren's hand before excusing themselves for the evening. Emily hugged Kaiel and they were on their way, leaving Kaiel and Warren to get along.
Kaiel watched them leave and smiled a little, looking at the nacho plate in the middle of the the table. "Well, we shouldn't let the nachos go to waste..." Kaiel made a face and picked up a chip with some cheese that was all over it. "It's awesome you like photography, and that you found your calling. If you didn't do photography, what do you see yourself doing?" Kaiel had a few different questions in her head, but didn't want to rapidly ask all of them. This wasn't a job interview, and wasn't a date.... Unless he suggested it.

Warren knew he was lucky. Being able to work in a field that he loved was something that not just anyone was able to do. Not only that, but he was actually pretty damn good at it, and not just at getting the picture itself, but at the composition of the photo as well. Time and practice had made him even better at it, but he was a natural talent as well. He was enjoying the conversation the four of them were having (he did enjoy talking about his career) and smiled when the nachos and beer were brought to the table. Seeing Emily yawn, Warren knew, but didn't let it show, what was about to happen.
Then it did, and the two of them excused themselves. "It was really great to meet you both," he said to them before they left. "Am I the only one that kinda saw that coming?" he laughingly asked Kaiel a few moments after they'd left. He didn't mind it, of course. It got him some one on one time with this beautiful woman. He smiled when she said there was no sense in letting the nachos go to waste. "Very true," he answered as he pulled a chip from the bowl. A bit of cheese dripped off the chip before he chomped it down.
He listened to her next question, and thought hard about it. It was a good question, after all, and one he'd only thought about briefly before. He scratched his chin after taking a napkin and wiping some cheese from the side of his mouth. "I guess, well...," he paused for a moment. "I don't really have much skill in other things, you know? So I'd probably be menial labor. Probably work in a warehouse or something, or at a grocery store. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's an honest living, if you can call what they get paid a living." He gave a small chuckle. "What about you?" he asked. He didn't mind at all if she asked questions. Anything he could do to get to know her better, he'd be all over it. There was that one little thing though that he'd have to tell her about. The alien living in his head. It would have to come up tonight. And hopefully it wouldn't weird her out too much.

Kaiel might have been smiling as her co-worker and friend left - leaving her to fend for herself and probably be a little awkward. Kaiel was not the type to play the field and be successful at it. Inside, Kaiel's mind jumped around, do something! Now don't stutter, don't sound stupid, don't drool, don't breathe.... No, wait. Do that, just don't hyperventilate.
Kaiel laughed a little when he asked if he was the only one that saw that coming. "No... She does that a lot. In fact, she usually does that and then the next time we see each other she grills me to know everything." Kaiel shook her head, and ignored her thoughts for a moment. "If you got to know her really well, she thinks the best relationships start out that way - just ask when her boyfriend is popping the question. She asked a fortune teller and the day he gave her came and passed. She was pretty angry - she almost yelled at some drunk we had to haul from the bar to the hospital."
Kaiel listened to him as he spoke about what he'd do if he wasn't successful in his career. She nodded, understanding the struggle. "Hey, it's not really menial. Who else would stock a shelf with stuff people needed? Or check the back? I used to work at a clothing store when I was studying to become a paramedic. At one point I wanted to give up, just spend my time working there - then I realized the pay was so low that sometimes I struggled to pay my rent, and my school tuition. I dragged myself until graduation, and then I realized how happy I was to have a career - but also how happy I was that I no longer had to be yelled at by customers who may or may not have liked me." Kaiel shrugged and thought about it for a second. "If I didn't work as a paramedic... I think I would have tried to become a cam model. It's not the most glamorous job, one of my friends from school quit to become that and said I should become one. Basically she said her job was going on webcam and people paid her to take off her clothes and do things that some men like to watch." Kaiel shrugged, maybe she had said too much. "That or... I would work at that clothing store." Kaile rolled her eyes a little, picking up another chip and eating it, washing it down with beer. "Sorry if that got awkward, but I guess we can talk about awkward moments? Whats the most awkward moment you've ever had while photographing anything?"

Warren really couldn't believe his luck. How was this woman across from him not taken already? Certainly some guy had to have already locked her down. There was no way she was sitting across from him right now. Relax, Warren, he kept telling himself. You've done this before. She's beautiful, but she's not the only beautiful woman you've ever talked to. Relax. He kept reminding himself of that.
He could only laugh when she mentioned that no, he indeed was not the only one that saw that coming. Then she mentioned that she'd done that before. "She's, well, an interesting one, that's for sure," he mentioned about Emily. At least she was happy though. Chris seemed like a good guy. "I gotta be honest, a guy would have to be a real moron to not hold onto you. You're...well, insanely beautiful." He took a quick sip from his beer, then a deep breath after swallowing. He figured that maybe there was no one yet that was worthy of her. That made sense to him. How could anyone really be worthy of someone like her. Beautiful, obviously caring, based on her occupation. He laughed again at the fortune teller story. "Well that would certainly be interesting."
Her response to his 'what would he be doing if not for being a photographer' question brought a smile to her face. Not only was she pretty and caring, but she was also down to earth, level headed. That was refreshing. So many times he'd seen a beautiful woman who just had an outlandish view on life. He also understood her struggle during college, working her way through to get her job. "That's very admirable of you. Very respectable. Not many people are able to do that. It shows just how strong you are as a person." He meant every word, it wasn't just lip service. Her choice of careers were she not a medic did shock him a little bit. She seemed like she might be a bit too shy for that sort of thing, but maybe he was just missing something. He smiled when she apologized for it getting awkward. "Not at all," he answered. But then she asked about awkward moments during his photography. He thought for a moment, then chuckled a bit before he answered. "Well, I was at City Hall not that long ago, a couple weeks I think. I was taking pictures of the new construction for the newspaper. Well, I went around back to get that view of construction." He opened his mouth to speak again, but couldn't help a laugh coming out. When he composed himself, he started back up. "I found a good spot, and knelt down to start taking pictures. It was starting to get fairly late at the time, but the last picture I took, a hobo wandered into frame and started peeing on one of the beams. He saw me, and after he finished he walked up to me and demanded five dollars for the picture of him." It may not have been the most awkward moment, but it was definitely awkward. "What about you? You've had to have some awkward moments with your job," he asked.

Kaiel continued to pick at the chips, popping a few in her mouth as she listened to him. Pausing to wipe some cheese off the corner of her lip. "Well, I had a boyfriend. Things got complicated because working a job and going to school became my life, and I devoted my time to it. So much that he found himself devoting time to other women. So we ended it on good terms. He tried to get back together with me after I started my career, and I told him my job is very demanding. Sometimes I can work an 18 hour shift, go back to my apartment and sleep on the kitchen floor. That happened before." Kaiel shrugged, making a face. "I slept there because my back was sore from trying to control a 300 pound football player that was delirious from heatstroke. It was fun, trying to get an IV into a guy who's temperature was 105." Kaiel shook her head, and took a sip of beer.
"Maybe he kind of thing I shouldn't say, little bit cringe worthy." Kaiel laughed and sat back in the booth, realizing she was finally relaxing for the first time since her evening began. The beer was helping, that was one thing for sure. She felt warm and fuzzy, which was what beer made her feel, too much beer. She had a feeling she'd be getting a cab to go home.
When he finished telling his awkward story, Kaiel let her jaw drop open. "You've got to be kidding! That's hysterical!" She laughed about it, and ate another chip. "Okay, awkward story. I've got too many to count. So I'm going to go with... A man that we had to pick up from a sex club. He was begging us not to tell his wife, and the reason he was picked up? He had a large object stuck where the sun doesn't shine. The best part was being confronted by a man wearing a strappy leather get up, asking if he could go with his 'honey bear' to the hospital..." Kaiel tried to stifle a giggle. She grabbed another chip, scooping some cheese onto it. "You'd be surprised how many people we've taken to the hospital with things stuck where they shouldn't be." She shook her head and thought of another story. "There was one woman who was taken in, complaining of abdominal pain. She had blood on her pants and to see what was going on, we took her pants off in the ambulance, and she was crowning! She didn't even know she was pregnant. But she had a healthy baby boy, right in our ambulance. It was one of the most touching moments I've ever had on the job... But enough about my job... I want to hear more about you. Have you ever traveled to take pictures? Gone to another country, maybe?"

"Wow," Warren said when she mentioned her former boyfriend, and her work schedules. He understood that the type of work she did was very demanding. His could too, though not on the same level. "Yeah, I can understand how you'd be that worn out from doing that. I can't even imagine. I had a football player fall on me once when I was in high school. I was not an athlete, so yeah...it wasn't pretty." He chuckled a bit. He really couldn't believe though, that someone would be so foolish as to cheat on this woman. Yeah, there were all kinds of people in this world, but to cheat on a woman that beautiful was a special kind of stupid. Hearing about her sleeping on the floor of the kitchen though caught him off guard. He actually dropped the chip he'd just lifted to his mouth. "Well, good thing I wasn't holding my beer," he joked. "I once slept in a dumpster to get pictures for a story a friend was blogging about. Kinda hard to sleep when every time you start to doze you feel something crawl across your face, you know?"
Yeah, so there was that. He couldn't believe that he'd let that tidbit of information out. If he was going to spend more and more time with her in the future, there would have to be one other thing that he told her about. And he found that he did want to spend more time with her. He was relaxing as well, even though he hadn't shown any signs of nervousness. He was pretty good at that.
Her next story about the guy from the sex club just made Warren cringe. "I just don't understand that," he said. "People having those sort of fetishes, I mean." He was very simple, a man who liked women. Maybe that was vanilla, but it was who he was. He couldn't help but to be impressed about her pregnant lady story. He had no idea how someone could not know she was pregnant, but there were a lot of things that he didn't understand in this world. "Travel? Yeah. I've been to Japan to cover a gaming competition in Tokyo. To Ghana once taking pictures of a temple. I'd really like to go to Egypt and photograph the sphinx and the pyramids. That would be an awesome trip, I'm sure. What about you? Ever traveled anywhere?"

Kaiel cringed when he told her about a football player landing on him during high school. "I can imagine it must not have felt very good." She grinned and shook her head. "Oh, the sleeping in a dumpster, I'm not that daring. But when my cat was still a kitten, I just adopted him and his first night he spent it exploring my bedroom, which included climbing my nightstand and then running around on my bed, including walking across my face while I was trying to sleep. Much better than some bug crawling on your face - but those nails were like daggers. You should see him now, he went from little kitten to fat cat. He spends most of his time in his cat house, looking out the window." She smiled and took another sip of her beer, ordering a water as soon as she finished it. Was the night coming to an end? No, she just didn't feel like getting shitfaced and ruining a good thing.
"But it shows persistence - sleeping in a dumpster I mean. You're pretty brave. The closest I've gotten to being in a dumpster was helping a homeless man out of one. He complained he had a huge rash on his arm, and he did. Turns out the only blanket the poor guy could find was a fleece one. He was allergic to fleece, so I stopped at a store and got him a really warm blanket that he wasn't allergic to."
"I think of it as to each their own. As long as they don't hurt themselves or others doing what they like to do, I don't see a problem with it. Helps if you have someone into the same thing you are..." Kaiel shrugged. "To be honest - I don't understand it either. But, it's their own little club."
Kaiel took a few sips of her water and a few more bites of the nachos, while she listened to his travels. "I think that would be incredible. Must have been pretty serene being at the temple?" She adjusted herself in her seat and cleared her throat, taking another sip of water. "I went to Japan once, but to cover a different sort of event. One of my friends invited me along, and we went to this small fishing village that... hunted dolphins. It was heartbreaking, but I took pictures of what they did, and it's forever burned into my retinas. I've also gone to South Africa and Australia. My parents moved to Australia, so I went to visit them last Christmas, and South Africa, I went on a safari. It was so incredible. I got close up to lions and giraffes and even saw a baby elephant learn what mud was. I have the pictures at home." She grinned. "I would travel again. I just have to figure out what to do with the vacation time I've gotten from work. I have two full weeks of paid vacation and leave. So maybe if you need a travel buddy when you go to Egypt..." She flashed a smile at him, maybe that wasn't just too deep of flirting just yet. "Since I brought up my cat, do you have any pets?"
