"Well, I'm not going to lie to you," Shen said with a slight shrug. "It would sting a bit if you left in the middle of a dinner or a movie. But...," he smiled. Everyone knew that nothing mattered in a sentence before the word but. "But I respect that devotion and I'm sure I can handle it." He totally understood the rigors of having a job that really ran your life. As a professor, he spent the majority of his time teaching or grading papers, not to mention the extra time he spent tutoring students who needed just that little bit more help. Let's also not forget faculty meetings and those meetings with the Dean about how she wasn't the biggest fan of his style of teaching. "It's something I can live with," he said with a smile. "And I really like you a lot too."
He knew that this was a risk that most men wouldn't take. He also knew that he was stronger than most men, more mature really. He understood the busy life, and he knew that eventually she would have to leave. That would hurt him, but he was more than willing to try the long distance thing. Honestly though, and this had already crossed his mind quite a few times, he knew there were good universities in Mooncrest City too. Despite the reputation that city had for being a literal Hell, there was no way he was going to walk away from this. This was the opportunity of a lifetime. He'd really never met a woman that he was more attracted to. And somehow he knew that he never would meet another. And strangely enough, he didn't want to.
"Yeah that sounds like the thing to do," Shen answered with a laugh. He already couldn't wait to pick her up for dinner. Eight o'clock just couldn't get here fast enough now. A laugh came from the other side of the counter. "You got it," Elliot said as he picked up the check from the counter. "Hear that, professor? Romeo. Just got her and I'm already stealing your girl," he laughed as he put the check on the table. "Charged you double for being so awkward, prof." Elliot gave an off handed smirk as he headed back to the table. Shen was quick to take the check and look it over. "Smartass," he mouthed as he reached for his wallet.
